aww man, I got a letter saying I didn't get the Braddock. At least it said I was in the final cut ;(

Hmm I didn't get a letter in the positive nor the negative from braddock yet...not sure if thats a good sign or a bad one.

you still have hope c0nfusion

how many people do you think apply for the braddock?

well its only open to those accepted into schreyer, which is about 300. it's then only open to people applying for a major in some kind of science, which narrows it further. And THEN, it's only open to those that actually applied. My guess is not that many people - probably around 40?

There are probably even fewer eliglible students. I think you have to have at least 1480 SAT and have done research.

Hmm, I don't remember seeing that requirement anywhere. I only have a 1470 and they didnt say i wasnt eligible, lol. But, I have done research.

i had a 1540, but i haven't done research since i live in a tiny town where there is none available, and i got it, so they must take various things into consideration.

i also think it said that the people awarded the scholarships generally have SAT scores above 1450 or maybe it was 1480, but i don't think it was a strict eligibility rule.

I had a 1480 and had done some minor research ;-(

guess it depends on how they liked your (schreyer) essays and whatnot - how do you think your essays were? and your EC's?

My essays were good, but I didn't have any real knockout science ECs, that's probably what did me in.

Well, got the rejection letter today..haha. I noticed something though...I'm willing to bet quite a bit of money that at least 9/10 of the braddock scholars came from PA. Why? simply because penn state is stingy when it comes to financial aid, and giving a full ride to an in state student is not nearly as costly as giving it to an out of state student. Does anyone know a braddock scholar from outside pa?

haha nope. i'm from PA. my essays for schreyer's were very science-oriented, so that may have helped. You are probably right about the in-state thing though.

uber cool - Congrats on the scholarship! I hadn't done research either, so I guess that didn't matter too much for either of us!

I think maybe 400 people applied for the scholarship? I could check, but I'm lazy. I'm also from PA. I think my essays were pretty good, though they weren't about science.

hey what does it take to get into the honors college in general in terms of stats and such....im thinking about applying to both penn states 6 year program with jefferson medical and also the honors college at penn state
i was wondering if id be a good contestant with a 94 unweighted avg from stuyvesant high school adn about a 2220 sat score

Google Schreyer College. The app is there.

I wonder if being off by about 63 1/3 points from the SAT I desired score would significantly hurt my chances of admission into the SHC. I received a 1286 2/3 (from a 1930 score on the new SAT I) in March. Class rank is 3/491. Taking 3 AP classes senior year...2 were taken junior year. National Honor Society member... Math Club founder.

Any thoughts?

setzwxman, your class rank will help you greatly, I met a guy with an SAT below 1350 who was valedictorian and he was admitted. I don't think it will hurt you too much because of your phenominal class rank.

ivybound1010- you may be able to apply to both the med program and shc, but you can only be in one of them. The 6 year med program is probably slightly tougher than the honors collge, but from Stuy with a 94 and a 2220, you should be in good shape

Thanks gameguy56!
