WillowEn: do you mind sharing your stats? What major and what school did you apply to?

can you get into SHC after first semester? how about after freshman year? I'm considering Smeal and would think Smeal + SHC would be a great experience.

I know you can get in after Sophomore year but I haven't heard about being able to get in before then unless you apply and are accepted before Freshman year. You can still apply now for next year but you are at a disadvantage.

I think it said that you can petition to get into schreyers after you freshman year

well now let's see...
i got 1580 on the SAT (i took them 2 years ago and got 800 V and 780 M). I had SAT II scores of 800 writing, 790 math iic, and 780 math ic. i had taken 10 AP classes and got 9 5s and 1 4 on them. i did 3 varsity sports (xc, track, indoor track) and was all-division (track). i was also in lots of clubs, volunteered at my church (altar serving) and hospital, and had a full-time job in the summer.

my essays, looking back on them, were actually very good, if i do say so myself. however, i had not done any research, so you don't have to have that to receive the braddock scholarship. i do live in pa, and like someone said, maybe penn state likes to choose in-state people. ummmmmmm what else? i went to my local public school, which was an extremely good school, and i was 2nd in my class.

good luck to everyone on your apps!

p.s. i ultimately decided to attend yale over penn state. yale was my first choice, but i was also considering penn, schreyer, and duke. my sister goes to schreyer and loves it. i love yale. so wherever you go, it will be awesome! : )

What's the new news at Schreyer?

i'm sorry I don't have the time right now to read through this extremely long thread, but I had a few questions. It is okay to mail the Schreyer's application after you've been accepted, right? Also, does anybody know about the Braddock scholarship?

I would apply for the Braddocks even if you don't have the requisite scores (or are they "suggested" scores?) and research experience, because some folks on here won last year without them. We didn't understand that it wasn't set in stone and therefore S did not apply, which turned out to be a mistake.

I think the Schreyer application is reviewed completely separately. It is a detailed paper application and you mail it directly to Schreyer rather than the admissions office, so as long as it's in by the deadline you should be okay.

What's the deadline for Schreyers/Braddock? Also, do you think I have a good chance at Braddock? Here are my quick stats:
SAT: 2290/1530
ACT: 34
GPA: 4.0, 1st in class
ECs: good
recs: good
Also National Merit, AP National Scholar

Deadline is November 30 for honors college application.

They say that Braddocks scholars must have at least 1480 old SAT (is that 2220 new SAT?) and must demonstrate continuing involvement in scientific research. You have to be in the honors college to be eligible for this.

Wait, am I misinterpreting the deadline? It says
[quote]
The priority deadline (postmark date) is November 30, 2004. All completed applications meeting the priority deadline will have a decision mailed on Febuary 19, 2005. Applications mailed after November 30, through March 19, 2005 will be evaluated on a rolling basis.

I'm assuming that the instructions are similar from 2004 to 2005. So that means I could still mail it until March 19, correct?

Oh, I guess you are correct there. Everybody I know submitted before the November 30 deadline. Since they only take 300 students, it probably is a disadvantage to submit late. Probably most of the spots are taken by the first batch of applicants, but it can't hurt to try!

I applied this year too, and I'm waiting on the decision. It's going to be sent out around the 16th. Some of my best friends go to Schreyers, Ohhhh I really hope I get in!!!

I'd post stats, but does anyone know enough about Schreyers admissions to comment on chances?

Hey, do any of you guys know when you hear about braddock. I didn't apply, but I was just wondering when students receive the good news (lets hope for it right?). Also, i think students applying for Braddock (et associated scholarships) hear back a lot earlier. I know someone who has known that they're in for a few weeks already. Anyone else hear that due to scholarship stuff?

I have the same question as ridethecliche. I applied for Braddock, but know very little about it.

I know that the priority deadline for Schreyers was November 30th, but does anyone have any idea when applicants received after this deadline will be notified? Or are they completeley rolling after the deadline? Thanks.

I believe they are completely rolling after the priority deadline.

From what I hear, decisions are being mailed out tomorrow, the 16th of February. They should be here on saturday, eek!

Alright I called again today, and it looks like they're staying true to the posted date of the 21st.

Oh well, wait a bit longer :-/

How long do you think I have to wait if I mailed my schreyer application out on Feb 7th? Will I hear back by March 15th?
