.......we are writing to remind you about an additional opportunity for academic enrichment at Penn State. The Schreyer Honors College, Penn State's undergraduate honors program, offers the best of a small-college environment, both in and out of the classroom, combined with all of the opportunities and resources of a world-class research university. Schreyer Scholars have a spectacular record of achievement when it comes to admission to the most selective graduate and professional schools, and employment in their chosen fields.

If you have not already applied to the SHC, we invite you to visit our
Web site at http://www.shc.psu.edu and download an application today! (If you have recently sent your application, you can expect an email notification in the next week.) While our priority application deadline was November 30, we continue to encourage applications from qualified prospective students. If you are able to get your complete application to us in the next two weeks, we will be able to notify you of your status in late February. Applications received later will receive later notifications, through our final application deadline in mid-March.....

Wait, am I seeing this correctly? So, if I applied in late January, I still might hear back this month? Sweet!
What about the Braddock Scholarship?

You probably won't get a braddock if you applied very late. They're VERY competitive, and i'm not sure if they give any out later. That is unless other students turn down the scholarship to attend elsewhere.

Both the braddock scholars at my high school decided to turn down penn state and attend elsewhere.

I did too, I'm not attending though.
Congrats. I suppose you're going there due to your excitement.
It's an awesome school and I LOVED the classes I sat in on and and the profs I talked to.

Yes it is. And, as stated in another thread on this topic, there were two changes to the 2008 Schreyer Honors College application. The Schreyer Honors College will no longer be stating a recommended minimum standardized test score for Honors College applicants. They used to state 1350 was the recommended minimum. The faculty review committee has not used the standardized test score in their review process, so the Honors College will no longer include a score reference in their application materials. Also, letters of recommendation from teachers and counselors will be submitted online. http://admissions.psu.edu/info/counselors/fa07_newsletter.pdf

if i apply to SHC this week (by 1/4/08) do you think this will SIGNIFICANTLY hurt my chances of getting accepted? i know this program is very competitive

btw, does anyone find the additional $30 fee annoying....why should we have to pay extra just to try out lol

how much are in-state students in SHC paying to attend PSU? PSU is roughly 20k per year and acceptance into SHC gets you a 3.5k scholarship. did anyone else get any more scholarships?

I just got my bill for the first semester (I am in-state and in SHC) and it is $9093. So about $18000 a year. Note that this includes room and board and...everything really except books.

You guys pay so much? I'm OOS and I have to pay $8,870/semester after taking out about $3,200/semester in federal loans. I guess that's a lot too if you add up what I pay plus the loans.
