Is the department reputable?
Is the program under-grad focused?
I am interested in hearing feedback on this as well… also regarding Computer Engineering. It looks like comp sci and comp engr both are part of the Electrical Engineering Dept?
Read this thread for CS
EECS department has EE and CS so would not call it the EE department.
MIT, Case Western, Colorado School of Mines, and UIUC, some very top programs, all believe that EE and CS are linked and keep those departments together. My son did a minor in CS, at Case, major in physics, and he also TAed for CS classes. Its very undergrad focused in all engineering departments at Case as well as CS, physics and math. My son got a nice picture Christmas card each year, got recommendations for graduate school from CS faculty and we met them at graduation.
Case is like a family, because its smaller than say Purdue or UIUC, the big name competition in the midwest. Case professors really care about undergrads, and work closely with any undergrad who has the inclination to do research work. My son stays in touch with his Case advisor, and finishing work with him, while
in grad school. It will be a life long relationship for my son, with his Case professor, I hope.
Also I observed faculty in materials science,EE and physics,
hiring computer science students to work on data analysis, Case
is becoming strong in the Big Data field, which has thousands and thousands of jobs now. I searched on Indeed
and found 850 open SUMMER internships in data science in California alone.
Here is the minor at CWRU in Data Science, so so important for CS majors to get exposed to, and Case offers it!

In addition, my sons friends who majored in CS, have gotten good offers at ATT in St. Louis and Google in California.
Its competitive for CS summer jobs for undergrads anywhere, even for MIT students , but Case does help with co op relationships. There is a five year co op plan or a four year CS bachelors degrees with summer jobs available.
Another positive about Case Western, is its high tech location. its very tied to medical software companies in Cleveland , due to Cleveland Clinic and University hospitals. My son’s CS friend who got a five year masters in CS at Case, worked the summer after sophomore year in Cleveland with a medical device company, on software for patent outcomes. Cleveland itself is a growing high tech area for software, solar, and always been a center for rubber research (Akron is “Rubber City” ) and NASA Glenn is in Cleveland as well, also takes software interns. , and a top area in the world for medical research. So all the departments, including CS, attract faculty that have a medical focus. So my son worked for a bit with an economist who focused on the economics of pharmaceutical companies, and his physics project was in biophysics.
Most jobs today are tied to CS or healthcare. What better thing than to combine them and Case does that well
Case is interdisciplinary and collaborative Thats an outstanding characteristic of the programs.
