I am a sophomore and I have just done my first practice test. Not sure what I got because I don't know how to add the score of the essay on to the writing skills portion. I have the raw score of the essay and the raw score of the writing skills section but am unsure on how to add it.

I didn't do too well. This is my first practice after all. And one more thing, I foolishly signed up for the SAT on January 22, 2011. Are there any chances of me doing a lot better on each section? (will post other scores once you answer my first question :D)

PS I used Barrons diagnostic test. Thanks for the info. FIRST POST ON COLLEGE CONF!

Thanks.

So here: 29.25 RAW writing skills score and about 9 essay score

According to Kaplan’s book with a table to convert the score, you’d get 610.

Thanks for the answer!

So you’re saying that when you calculate the writing skills score, you just count the essay as a RAW score like the other 2 sections and then you just add it up?

Am I confusing?

I’m not sure about that.
Here’s a photo of a part of that table:

Consider you 9 as 4.5 there.

OK everyone.

I got a total score of 1600-1640.

CR - 610
M - 420 Needs improvement.
W - 580-610

Never studied before.
I’m gonna read the BB which I have and Barron’s and vocab lists.

I want to do a practice test each week.

Do you think if I do that up to January 22, 2011 I would be able to reach my goal
of 2000+???

I would love your advice :)

my first practice test i got about 1700 on and i moved up from there to a 1980 - real SAT- in about 1.5 months so yeah you can do it. Oh, and the only books i used were Barron’s 07-08 and BB

Great! That gives me a lot of hope as I don’t have 1.5 months, but 162 days!! Andmy actual total score ended up to be 1680-1700 because I messed up on the calculations! I realized that as I was REVIEWING my WRONG answers. I guess that does work.

My chances of getting that 2000+ as a sophomore are going up!!! Yay

Keep the tips coming. Maybe we can inspire future sophomores other than me.
