- Are recitation sessions mandatory to attend?
- Are exams relative easy?
- Do you get take-home or in-class exams? What are they structured?
- Are Psych recitation sessions big in terms of population?
I’m interested! Thanks a lot for your answers.

Recitations were mandatory. Exams were easy, and all exams were in-class. I didn’t take a single class at NYU that had a take-home exam. All of the core psych exams were multiple choice with short answer questions. Lab classes had full lab-reports, and some of the higher level classes had essays.
Recitation sections are usually capped at 20-30, so they aren’t too large.
Beautiful answer! There is just one thing I didn’t get quite well. What do you mean by Lab classes? I thought you were required to take one class from the CORE C (Lab classes) only. Do you have to take more than one lab class, eventually? In addition, do you know if the TAs take attendance in recitation? I mean, why is it important to go to recitations?
I meant that the whole lab classes category generally requires lab reports. As far as recitation goes, it depends on the class. For stats, for example, recitation is a big component and is where you do a lot of SPSS work. Other recitation sections discuss texts that will be tested but that are not covered in the main lecture class. It’s mainly an opportunity to ask questions and connect with course material more closely.
Absolutely awesome! Thank you so much for your kind comments
