I'm a gym person, who highly relies on exercise to relieve stress. I haven't really seen photos of the fitness area of the rec center. Can anyone give me info on it? Like how many machines, how populated it is, which dorms its closest to etc.? Thanks in advance!

there are two gym areas. there is the main gym and the mac gym. the mac gym is bigger and with more equipment, but it is pretty crowded. the main gym is smaller, with a bit less equipment, its not quite as crowded. i do mostly weightlifting but if you are into cardio then you probably would go to the mac because there is a 2nd floor with a lot of elliptical machines…and usually you can find an open one. (also treadmills one lower level). in the entrance of the rec center there is also a line of a ton of treadmills and bikes.

Would both gyms have a lot of free weights? what about benches? are benches overly populated like in many other public gyms?

there are like 6 benches in the mac and 4 in the other one. it really depends on what time you go. from 2-4 its the most crowded. you may have to wait 5-10 min at most but sometimes you can get one right away. there are a ton of free weights like 2 sets at each weight…the main gym always has a ton of free weights open, mac usually too.

I would be coming in as a freshmen, so I don’t know much about the workload. Would I really have time to spend in the gym?

if you don’t waste time in your dorm you should have time. i go everyday because i can focus better after exercise.

which dorms are closest to the mac gym?

None.

Really, none of them–all dorms seem to be an equal [distant] distance away from the Rec Cen.

Can everyone use the track & pool?

yes they can, gym in the early afternoon isn’t too bad, you should have no trouble getting your workout in. I would say its mostly busy after 5

Is the rec center nice?

does anyone know pool hours?

pool closes at 10pm, that’s all i know.

how about basketball? Any decent outdoor courts? Are indoor courts available to everyone?

how are the anacapa dorms?

Good luck.

Well obviously i wanted different points of view and some people werent answering durrrrrrr. Dont get a bug up your butt.

Again: If no one was answering, why not be proactive and use the search function? There is NO NEED to spam the same question in two/three/four threads.

And for us existing UCSB students–we just started a new quarter. We’re busy. BUSY. Crashing classes, planning our future schedules, etc. Understand that, we’ll get to your question eventually.

Yes, Anacapa is quite nice. No, I lived in FT my freshman year. But if you look at your question:

It’s too general of a question, and a topic that has been extensively discussed a few weeks earlier in the wake of all the excitement of acceptances and what not.

Why not go back to the older threads and do your own research? In fact, another poster–fred11 answered a few questions about Anacapa earlier. . .

No need to sink to insolence.

You know I was just asking A GENERAL QUESTION about the dorm because I wanted a GENERAL idea. AGAIN I said I wanted a different point of view. No need to take ur little “forum job” so seriously. fred11 was nice enough to answer my question without such an annoying attitude. I was just curious, goddamn.
