How is the School of Management? Reputable?

How is the School of Management in Boston University? I want know just how reputable it is since I plan to go to grad school. Financial Times claims that BU’s School of Management is number 64 in the nation, but I would like some first person perspective.

Its good if you get some aid and scholarship, not sure if most private schools are worth the 50 grand per year…unfortunately. im not biased i applied there too as well as many other privates, and only 2 publics from my state of NY. Id love to get into SUNY Binghamton school of management which is both ranked much higher than BU and is also MUCH cheaper, about 45,000 to estimate. good luck in your admissions to BU

I’m curious about the same thing. I’m looking at BU and Northeastern’s school of business. I was surprised to see that NU (27th) is ranked so much higher than BU (65th). I always was under the impression BU was a really good school. I guess I was wrong. BU does have the name recognition though so I guess that helps. For now Im actually leaning towards Northeastern over BU, but I’d like to hear some more opinions or comments if anyone has anything to add.
Thanks

Take rankings with a grain of salt. Honestly, when you’re actually here, rankings are pretty irrelevant. You can succeed wherever you go. I’m an SMG student and I can go into a long rant about why BU is underrated or why it’s a great school but that’d be pretty much useless coming from someone who is bias. Also, little bit of general advice about picking your colleges, make sure you take into account everything about the school. Making a decision as a result of rankings would be extremely unwise.

I apologize if my post is rather uninformative but rankings = pet peeve of mine. And for the record, I got into schools ranked higher than BU but obviously disregarded that when choosing where to go.

i agree with odin about the rankings. rankings also take alumni endowment and campus feel and athletics into account, not just academics, which is why i feel BC is ranked higher than BU (football and basketball). also, the reason northeastern is probably “ranked” so much higher than BU’s SMG is because they have a co-op program. if u were choosing between BU & northeastern, i would look at whether or not you want to do a co-op, not the rankings. co-op’s are extremely helpful, obviously, in finding jobs, but i’ve heard that its been a lot more difficult with the recession for all business majors. hopefully, though, next year will be different.

Yea Ali I totally agree,

I didn’t mean to say at all I was choosing strictly on rankings, but the rankings do serve as a guide. And yes I do like the co-ops and international business program so that is what is pushing me towards Northeastern, but I am still very interested in BU and eager to hear from them. Both schools have good business programs, but youre right, it comes down to personal preference.

something else that is interesting is that BU is actually ranked much higher in the world than it is in the United States…so take that US News with a HUGE grain of salt.
