how is this for a freshman schedule?

hey guys! hope you are all having a good day...

I'm enrolled in CALS majoring in sci of natural and environmental systems and I plan to transfer to CAS to major in math/econ because I realized some stuff this year (aka...I like math much more).

I am planning on taking:
CHIN 1109 (chinese for those who have some background already but don't know how to read/write)
CHEM 1150 (language of chem...lol am no good at chem)
NTRES 1101 and lab (required course for my current major)
MATH 2230 or 2210 (I have a 5 on BC...which do you all suggest I take? I'm pretty good at math)
PE
and finally, the req frosh writing seminar

it's 18 credits altogether...do you think it's too much?

Thanks!

if you're planning on transferring into CAS i would recommend you take more of the courses a math/econ freshman would take...

i know you have to take a couple CALS courses before transferring, but talk to a CAS person to see what might work best?

I've /heard/ that 223 for Math is very hard, do not take unless you are like.. very confident/hard working. A 5 on BC doesn't say much sine Calc is already ridiculously curved. I'm (planning) to go into Calc III instead of 221 just because I didn't want to overload on classes.

Also... I heard Chinese 109 (though the description is for those of Chinese heritage) is also not as easy as you'd expect. At least that's why I'm going to attempt to start over in Chinese at least.

Lastly: You really don't have to do writing seminar first you know... I hear it can get pretty exhausting/work heavy.

yea, it's your first semester so I recommend around 15 credits. Also, I've heard that chin 1109 (which I'm taking next semester too) is pretty hard with prof lee.

I'd drop one of those, trust me. It's not that you couldn't handle it, but why not give yourself some slack with adjusting/having a little fun. Also, it'd be better for your GPA. You have 7 semesters after that so don't feel like you need to cram everything in just yet. Unless of course you're like me and doing a psych major and premed requirements with a theatre arts minor and you want to keep up your mandarin and french.

even still, take it easy or you'll get your ass owned.

lollerpants: hopefully ur prof for Calc III will be much better ... took that class last fall with the worst prof imaginable ... but the prof i had left.

OHFAIL.

Well I learned most of it already in HS and stuff because we had multivariable/differential eq, but if that's the case I might switch over to linear algebra.

For Chinese 1109, you don't have to take a placement test right, since it's an intro course?

I don't think you have to take an intro course from what I've asked.

Hey! I took Lee Lao Shi's Chinese 302 class. She's hard but gives high grades. She runs the class as if it's the ONLY class you're taking at Cornell - so pretty much, she just overloads you with work.

To the people who want to retake Chinese from the beginning - good luck on that. The Chinese TA's weed out people who already can speak a bit of Chinese and place them into the correct Chinese classes. So I don't know if acting dumb and not speaking any Chinese at all will help you guys! Just my two cents.
