I have only heard good things about Swarthmore's engineering department, and it sounds fabulous to me. However, I have also some claims flying around that the funding of the department is quite low, and that the rigor is excessively high. Any truth to this?

I will probably apply to Swarthmore in december anyways :)

From what I’ve heard the facilities aren’t that great, but they are renovating everything starting this summer.

We recently visited and the engineering facilities did look a bit old. I can see where a renovation is needed.

I have a lot of engineering friends and they’ve told me that the department is not that great. I’m not exactly sure why – they seem to have complaints about specific courses or professors. It’s a small department so you will probably be stuck with a professor/class you’ll absolutely hate. But there are engineering majors who get into great grad schools. I guess it depends on your idea of what makes a good department. I can’t say much more than that, unfortunately.
