I have found the GPA reqs for TAG at each UC through this PDF: http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/counselors/files/ETS11_TAGMatrix_rev070111.pdf

My question is this. I am coming out of a UC and going to a CC in order to transfer to another UC. My total semester units do not exceed their limit so for that I am fine. However, what I am wondering is, do they calculate the GPA based on solely your classes taken at the CC or do they calculate it along with the grades that I have already received at the previous UC?

It’s all classes that are transferable. Since you’ve already been at a UC I’m going to say all the classes you took there are transferable.

I have a couple of failing grades from when I was at the previous UC. If I re-take those classes at the CC will the grades be replaced as well? Also only Failing grades are replaced am I correct?

You have to make sure they’re the same classes that transfer from the CC to UC. But yeah, it you retake them the Fs will be replaced. You can only replace Ds and Fs. Just curious, which UC were you at?

I was at UCR for my freshman year and part of my second year, and then I had to take a break to help my family but my break is longer than expected. So I’m trying to aim for a better ranked school. Thought I might as well.

Is there a way to figure out if the classes are the same or would I just have to ask the counselors?

[ASSIST Prompt Page](<a href=“Welcome to ASSIST”>Welcome to ASSIST)

not sure which cc you’re at but just switch it to that instead of smc and go from there. Lastly, I’ve learned from experience to make sure you ALWAYS double check things with a counselor as soon as possible. Hope this helps and good luck with everything!

Your gpa will be calculated twice! One will be called “assist gpa” which will be all your transferable units combined and the second gpa will be called “non assist gpa” which will calculate everything including non-transferable units meaning both your cc and your uc gpa.

But for TAG they’ll look at overall transferable gpa. Lots of people think that schools only look at “assist gpa” but that’s not true, they’ll go back and look at each class to see if it transfers.

So to put it simply,…
Assist GPA = only the uc/csu transferrable classes that i have taken at the CC?
non Assist GPA = everything in the Assist GPA + the classes I have taken at the UC?

So I can still replace the failing grades at the UC by taking them again at the CC right?

Correct. I’m going to assume that all the classes you took at UCR are UC transferable, though so your gpa will be everything (unless you took remedial math or english).

You can replace them as long as they’re the exact same classes. Again, double check with a counselor about this.

Oh and do you know if the classes I took at UCR help to fulfill the TAG reqs, or will i have to take 60 more units at the CC?

Thanks for putting up with all my questions you’re the best haha. And I’ll definitely be sure to check up on all these details with the counselors.

They’ll count as long as they’re UC transferable; not need to take a whole other 60 to qualify. Which school are you thinking of tagging to? You also need to make sure you don’t have too many units or they may reject you straight out. At most schools you can’t have more than 90 combined cc and four year college units. For Davis and riverside I believe the count is 90.

No problem. PM me if you’ve got anymore questions. I was on here about one year ago with the same questions and someone helped me out so I’m just doing the same :)

*combined semester units

The GPA calculated on TAG may not be entirely accurate because the TAG form may not take courses you repeated in CC to replace UC D/F grades into consideration. This is normal and something that the UC tech team has not yet figured out how to address (at least this year; maybe they will figure something out next year). So don’t freak if your GPA looks too low when you fill out TAG. The UC campus where you want to TAG will recalculate the GPA after your coursework is evaluated.
