So, I am planning on attending Skidmore College(as an HEOP student) for the Fall 2016 semester and these are my current grades so far(this is basically our last week of school aside from having one more day of school next Monday) for the scond semester:
Spanish 5-D/F(at a 52 right now…)
AP English Lit-84(B)
Chemistry-96(A)
Chamber orchestra-97(A+)
Full Orchestra-91(A-)
Journalism-99(A+)
throughout the past 3.5 years I have been consistently a 3.7+ student. So will my acceptance be revoked? I have legitimately/REALLY been stressing about it so for the past week. My counselor said that my Spanish teacher would be open to letting me make up work, but I don’t think so.
and as for why my grade in Spanish is so low is due to time management problems, excessive stress, multiple absences, and probably some anxiety too. So what do you guys think I know I have done horribly so please don’t reprimand me just give me an answer. I was thinking of calling the college to see if I would be rescinded, but I’m not sure…
I think when admission officers speak of rescinding students, they mean that a student had had grades drop in practically all their classes. They expect a class or two to drop from an A to a B for students second semester senior year. And in your case, only your Spanish class is a serious red flag. I would speak to your spanish teacher, see what you can do (i think it’ll be fine at a c or even a d), then contact Skidmore if you’re still worried and if you have a good reason for letting that grade drop.
Obviously you’re a very good student and Skidmore would not want to make things difficult and you’re not the only one with a slip in grades this semester. Your Spanish teacher knows that you’re a senior on the way out and will probably help you much more than you expect. Other than that, your grades are great and don’t freak, colleges don’t really want to revoke accepted students and at worst, could put you on academic probation (I don’t know Skidmore’s policy though, might help to look that up). Colleges are only really worried if you failed a class, other than spanish, it’s really not that bad.
If you could get spanish up to a c, your GPA would be around a 3.5 uw. Which is still strong, i don’t know the policies around HEOP, so I suggest you look that up and see what the required minimum gpa is. I hope this helps!
Thanks for answering. I was planning on asking my Spanish teacher if there’s anything I can do,along with writing her a letter with an apology for my performance this year, tomorrow, but she’s pretty dramatic/loud/volatile and you kind of never know when she will yell at you. For example, sometimes she’ll be really nice and open to helping you,but then other times she’ll yell at you(she even threw a stapler at the door when a student wouldn’t stop knocking on her door. I know that that doesn’t necessarily mean she’ll throw something at me,but…)So I’m honestly kind of scarred to confront her because I don’t know how she’ll react, but thanks for answering.
Did you talk to your parents about this situation? Maybe one of your parents can try to talk to her. I understand that you are a senior and everything, but you don’t have much time left and something needs to be done ASAP.
Okay so i’m overly concerned about almost anything involving college and making sure that everything is always certain and nothing is in danger of being taken away…with that being said, I’m freaking out over the chance of my the college i’m attending rescinding my admission. The college is the University of Wisconsin and firstly, I was given a letter saying they were concerned about my grades, in AP Chem I had gotten a C- but i’m usually an A/B student so I understood that, took into consideration the side effects of dropping the class, called the admissions office, and then sent the university an email telling them I dropped the class and it was documented.
Now the problem comes in where I’m scared that after seeing my second semester grades that the college will take away my admission. My only “bad” grades were in AP Calc with a C and a B- in Anatomy. I also received a full tuition scholarship but i’m not sure if the scholarship office deals directly with the University admissions so that’s where i’m freaking out. Then I received a “Disciplinary Documentation” for a dumb library thing where I leave the library with my friend to go to another classroom, I’ll mention that this is the one and only disciplinary action I have EVER.
I just worked so hard throughout high school and would hate to lose my admission to a great school because of a grade or two. Does anyone think it will?
@Histgeek25 1) Welcome to CC. 2) Don’t hijack another’s thread. 3) you’re paranoid – UW isn’t going to withdraw its offer to you for a C and a B-. You’re worth potentially a quarter million in tuition and fees (if you’re OOS).
Ask the guidance counselor what grades get sent on the final transcript. If only the final grade gets sent and if it will be in the C range, you should be OK.
If your Spanish teacher will let you make-up any work take advantage of that option quickly and with gratitude.
Only the college can tell your their exact policies but the general rule is to avoid D’s and F’s.
I guess I can always ask my mom to call her,but I honestly feel like that’s going to make it worst. I already asked my guidance counselor and she said my Spanish teacher would let me make up work, but she didn’t. She said she didn’t read my letter explaining myself and she instead gave it to the assistant principal
Call Skidmore!! They are the ones who can tell you what their policy is. Why wouldn’t that be the first thing you think to do? I bet you will be relieved once you speak to someone at the college.
Also, have a meeting with your guidence counselor and your teacher to discuss the options. Don’t be passive!
^This. Call admissions at Skidmore today, explain your situation truthfully and remorsefully and keep your fingers crossed. Hopefully, your not going in with the intention of being a Spanish major. Couldn’t hurt to have your high school guidance counselor work with you on this, maybe get them involved?
There is a chance that you be able to work out some arrangement with Skidmore – perhaps taking Spanish at a CC or other local college or even an online course over the summer. Agree, it is best to call and try to work something out as opposed to the admissions rep being surprised by seeing an F or D on your transcript.
