I am filling out my Georgetown App right now, and I just came across the Short Answer and Essay question. It doesnt specifically tell me how many words its supposed to be.
The thing is, I have a perfect essay for the extracurricular section that I originally wrote for my common app essay. Its 728 words...
My Essay about myself is about 600 words.

how did u write 728 words on the extra curricular section? i thought the limit was 300 words or something on the common app??
anyways i think u should keep that short, and spend more time on the essays
and i think they said within a page for the essays?

ao1313, my personal essay was around 800 words, while my activity essay was roughly 650 words (which came close to being too long.) They were also single-spaced, but in the end, you just paste it into the online box, so I’m not sure if that actually matters.

its single haha
My extracurricular is longer than my real essay but i HATE cutting it down because it loses its impact haha
I guess if it doesnt tell me the lenght, I cant just do whatever haha

I know people working in the admissions office that read the essays: they don’t want max length, they want engagement. Get a clue. Be interesting. Don’t be another essay in the stack.

my personal statement was a page, ~600 pages. my extra curricular essay was the same as the one i used on the common app, so exactly 150 words. my “why georgetown” was only ~250-300 words. i thought that my “why georgetown” STUNK, but i got in ea, so do not stress. :)

The way it works is that the top 10-15% of kids get in based on stats (SATs, rank, and etc.), so essays dont’ factor in that much, but if you’re not the 2400 and ranked 1/300 kid (not that perfect applicant), then your file goes to committee (which spends 10-15 reading your essays and reviewing your files), so that’s when the essays count!

I got accepted EA and my short essay was around 300 words, while my “Why Georgetown?” essay was around 750-800 words. For the personal essay, I used my common app essay which was around 750 words.
