This is a really really really to the nth power of a long shot, but if I can convince my parents to move to cali during the summer of this year, can I be considered instate for UCLA when I apply next year :D? I really really really want to go to UCLA (my second choice), but I don't even think I want to apply there because my SAT sucks (1900-2000).

Yes because your parents would file their taxes in California. You are a resident wherever your parents file taxes unless you're an independent and completely self-sufficient. Otherwise, you have to establish intent to become a CA resident and be exempt from your parents' tax forms for at least 2 years.

but emmeline, if they were to move during the summer, they wouldn't file CA taxes until the following april, ~5ish months after applications are due.

Q: What if I'm a minor and my parent moves from California?

A: You may be entitled to resident status if you are a minor U.S. citizen or eligible alien whose parent was a resident of California who left the state within one year of the residence determination date* if:

You remained in California after your parent(s) departed

You enroll in a California public post-secondary institution within one year of your parent(s) departure, and

Once enrolled, you maintain continuous attendance in that institution

Financial independence will not be required in this case.

*this is at the start of the schoolyear? correct me if im wrong...

i cant find the link to the 2 yrs exempt from parents' taxblahblah blahblah

IDK how it works in regards to your app being viewed as OOS or IS. i guess u would need to call and contact them. but for tuition purpsoes, u shoudl be able to get IS tuition

I suspect that he was going off of the stated SAT scores and the fact that he's an out of state student right now. So, actually, he does have some stats and clearly he thought he had enough information to make a judgment.

that is true, it's an opinon... just a really unfounded opinion, especially with UCLA's new holistic approach to admission, you absolutely cannot predict admission solely based on SAT and california residency...

I'm from out of state SATs werent that great and im attending ucla.. so just do yor best and prove it in your essays.. dont let the fact that we are out of state turn you away because now with college admiss. you never know..
