Incoming freshmen here, looked through the financial area of my college today and noticed that they haven’t received my FAFSA Application. My FAFSA application was done on October 2nd and processed the following day. It’s been almost 4 months and I’ve just now noticed this and yes, I did input the correct school code (main campus). So does anyone know how long it usually takes? I contacted the college a couple of hours ago and am currently waiting for a response back.
It shouldn’t take this long, maybe a month at the most. There’s probably something up.
Are you sure your name is exactly the same as on your application?
Any chance you have a very common name and your FAFSA might be with another student’s file? This has happened.
Are you sure all identifying info was entered accurately…Birthday and the like?
My son reversed two numbers on his SS number on the application to a school (I don’t even know if they still ask for that). So the SS on his FAFSA didn’t match the one on his application (which is something that was used in 2003). We knew something was wrong when he didn’t receive an award that a friend had received. We called the school…and sure enough, the numbers were not the same. It was easily fixed back then by the financial aid officer…we did need to send supporting documentation.
So…check check your FAFSA…make sure nothing was entered incorrectly…same with your admissions application. They need to match.
And do let us know what the say when you call!
They definitely should have it by now. I agree that you need to check all pertinent information & call the financial aid office. I used to work at a large public university, and I had a few students who put the law or med school codes on their FAFSA … and because they hadn’t applied to that “campus,” their FAFSA never got reviewed. Another thing that can happen is that a FAFSA can get “stuck in suspense “ … that is, it can be there but somehow not get loaded into the system. It’s rare, but it can happen. That is why it is important to follow up & make sure the school has your FAFSA properly loaded & attached to your file.
I’ve double checked everything on my FAFSA including my SSN. Everything seems to check out perfectly fine so I’m just waiting for a reply back from the college’s financial aid office. There has been a tendency though where people misspell my name with only one “l” instead of two, but when I got my letter of acceptance, my name was spelled correctly.
Mine took a week
The FAFSA is processed and available for the schools to ‘pull’ within a day or two. Schools do it they way that works the best for the school. Big schools often pull the info every day, especially in the busy season, while a smaller school may only pull the applications or updates once a week.
There is something wrong with your application that it is stuck. It may be that the school has pulled it, but failed to update your portal info. Keep following up.
I got the problem solved. Apparently since my penmanship isn’t that good, a single number of my SSN on the college application was confused with another number.
Good job getting the issue resolved!
? that was my guess! Glad it’s solved!
