Just wondering, as the title says. Since there is no length requirement, what is the generally preferred length?

Mine was 554 - I was accepted.

Mine was 753 (about a page and a quarter). I was accepted. I’d say keep it under two pages. Most schools say one page, but this is CHICAGO we’re talking about; I don’t think they’d mind a little extra length–especially if it’s an interesting topic (and how could it NOT be; again, this is CHICAGO…make it fun!)

Ask someone to read it (like a brutally honest friend). If they appear to be dozing off, it’s too long.

Mine was 850, and I got accepted. However, I think mine was pretty good, and needed to be that long. :)

567 words (accepted EA) .

590 words (accepted EA).

634 on one topic and accepted EA, so really, as long as you get your point across.

S2’s main Chicago essay was 1699. (!!)
S1’s was 1398.
Both accepted EA.

581 words (accepted EA).

I can’t remember exactly how long mine was, but it was 400-600 somewhere. Got accepted EA

Mine is at around 700 and it’s over half done. Should be around a thousand.

mine was around 500-550ish? accepted EA

Mine is around 1000 but it’s a really crazy idea and the adcoms should enjoy it =)

Oh yeah I posted mine up in the Post Your Essay thread. So take a look if you’d like.

Can I address University of Chicago as UChicago in my “why Chicago” essay? Or is that too informal.

800-ish. And I was accepted EA.

@feuxfollets:
You can address it as The University of Chicago, Chicago, UChicago, The U of C, Phoenix, etc. Whatever you want.

I wrote almost 1100 and was accepted EA, so there’s plenty of room to find a reasonable length.

@ HonorsCentaur: You forgot UChi :P
