How long should my NYU essay be?

I am looking at the NYU supp and I see that I need to write 4 essays. But how long my essays need to be has not been specified. I mean I can't decide if I should look at them as if they were short answer questions or long written out ones.

Also the first essay (paraphrasing): What is the most important part of your application, and why?

I'm clueless as to what to put for that. I could probably answer that well if they were asking about me but they are asking about my application. Well, I mean what do they want to know, that my SAT score is in the top 3%? That I am a hard worker and someone who put in long hours towards my passion?

I'm a bit clueless

thanks!

they're limited to 750 characters each.

The first question just refers to your extracurriculars I believe (maybe that's not the case for Common App..I don't know). Whichever one you ranked first on your list is the one you write about. As kami1630 said, they're only 750 characters (NOT words)...so that works out to about 7 lines of text.

wow i completely overlooked the word "characters" for "words" this entire time -.- im so glad i came upon this thread!

for the commonapp, the first question refers to any aspect of your application (grades, SATs, extracurrics, etc)..this may be different from the nyu specific though

Is it 750 characters including spaces?

I'm thinking about sending in a paper application on tuesday. 1) will it be postmarked the 16th; and 2) would they mind if I printed out my personal statements instead of cramming it into the 4-5 line provided?

===

Is it 750 characters including spaces?

===

Yes, or else it would say words. I found out the hard way with another app (I thought it was 350 words, but it was characters, which only amounted to four sentences).
