My grades have been excruciatingly average for the duration of my high school career. I’m currently on the precipice of my junior year with an already dismal GPA of approximately 3.6. However, I’ve recently earned a “c” in an AP class, and am aware that this will hurt my chances of getting into college, but not to what extent. I got a 29 on the ACT without studying, so I should hopefully be able to get that up. I’m in varsity sports, and am somewhat involved in the community. How much has this grade hurt me? How (If possible) can I balance out such a transgression? What are my chances of getting into a decent college?
A 3.6 is not dismal. Come on! You’ll have a “C”. There here are hundreds of good colleges that you could gain admission to with no problem.
What is the percentile of a person who scores a 29 on the ACT, Anncook315? Recalibrate your thinking. You’ll do fine. Speak w/your guid counselor on where prior students of similar academic stats have successfully applied.
Enough humblebrag.
Of course you will get in. The problem is that you have trained yourself to underperform. To prepare better for college give a solid effort in your senior year and do at least some studying for ACTs. Both your GPA and ACT scores are well above average.
Really??? I suggest you get your hands on a college guide book (ex. Fiske, Princeton Review to name a couple) and start reading. It should become clear that you would be a strong candidate for many fine schools.
Since when is a 3.6 so bad? There are threads on CC that you can search where people tell which schools they got into with certain gpas. In my researching schools, I have found tons of great schools that don’t require perfection.
@ErinsDad I don’t think it’s a humblebrag, I think it’s a case of having read too many posts on this site. It’s screwed with my perception of what makes a good score/GPA/student in the past and I told my kids to avoid this site for hat very reason. @Anncook315, honey, you’re in a great position to get into a great school, you just need to buy one of those books like the Fiske Guide. There are, what, 4000 colleges and universities in the USA? 3900 of them would love to have you right now. You’ll be fine. You’ll be terrific!
