Does anyone know how many students are accepted to the freshman class at NYU’s Steinhardt Classical Voice program? ? My D is a soph in high school but very interested (did a visit last fall) and just heard they only took 15 freshman this year! Wondering if that’s accurate? Any other info about that program would be so welcome too!
I’m sure they accepted more than 15 to yield a class that’s approximately 15. D did the program for MT and graduated in 2012. If you can, your D should try to apply for their summer program before senior year. It is taught by their real faculty, and is modeled after the undergraduate program.
At the Weekend on the Square thing for accepted students this year, a professor from Steinhardt Vocal Performance said they accepted 16 classical vocal performance and 16 MT vocal performance kids this year (half girls, half boys), but maybe I misunderstood and she meant they planned to yield that many.
The yield D’s year was almost 100%. That was in 2008. It took them by surprise and they had a very large class. Perhaps the yield has remained high, and they only need to accept 30 to yield 28 or so.
