Lol I probably average 20 all-nighters per year. But I've figured that all-nighters often aren't worth it cuz 2 hours of sleep can do a lot in those cases

but actually i've now figured that the secret of success means sleeping early, then waking up at 1-2 AM, and then having several hours of AMAZINGLY productive time (since I'm amazingly less distractible when a few hours' sleep is a "reset" button and when the nighttime has fewer distractions in general). In fact, maybe the optimal study strategy IS to sleep early (at like 8-9 PM) and then wake up early (at like 1-2 AM). Especially since distractions are worst in the evening.

Or it sometimes works. Sometimes this just means I often go back to sleep. And a 1 AM alarm would annoy others, lol.. another way is taking 10 mg of adderall xr just before sleep, and then it wakes me up once it starts to kick in several hours later (lol dont worry i have prescription).

When I took AP Euro 3 or 4 years ago, we always had 7 page papers due almost every week, so I would get at least 30 all-nighters during the school year back then. Of course, most everyone got 5’s so it paid off.

I did one this year which was actually on a 30 hour day. I had been in England for the weekend, had taken a flight to Paris the night before. I woke up at 6 GMT+1 and arrived here around 4 GMT-5. I immediatly had to get ready for ballet at 5 which went to 8:30 because it was tech week and then I did the massive anounts of homework that I didn’t have room to take with me to Europe. It was under very special circumstances.

I stayed up once last year for registration at 5am. Only EVERYONE was on at that time, so I didn’t actually get to finish until 10-ish. And by then I couldn’t fall asleep and was forced to stay up all day.

Otherwise, I might stay up until 4:30, but that’s usually because I crash when I come home from school and only wake up past 9 so I can’t sleep.

But I’m usually up past midnight either way. Just because.

I also agree that waking up early in the morning to work after getting some sleep is really productive.
