I am thinking about taking Honors English 12, Ap Psych, Ap Gov, Ap Calculus AB, AP Environmental Science, Human Anatomy/Physiology, and AP Spanish
Take only the AP classes that actually interest you. For most colleges, you don’t need that many. You just need to show some rigor, for most colleges, not THE MOST RIGOR EVERR!!!
I’ve been told by a math professor at a highly regarded tech school that he wishes his freshman wouldn’t AP out of Calc. He says that AP calc misses key concepts and he has to teach that later. My advice to my own kids as a result is to take AP calc like a preview course with the intention to take it again as a freshman.
Also bear in mind that as a senior you will need to complete college applications, go on college tours, etc. Do you really want all of these AP classes??
Also, AP classes, despite how they are lauded to be like college, they really aren’t like college. IMHO, they create standardized learning, cookie-cutter thinking. In college – in a good college – they will challenge the cookie cutter thinking and askyou to look at issues from various angles.
If you’re genuinely interested in the subject, by all means, take the AP class. But if you’re not that interested, and you are doing it to impress some college someplace, trust me. They won’t be that impressed. It’s best to look at just what interests you and move forward from there.
I would recommend that you lower the number of AP and take Calculus BC. That course should get you out of Calc 1 and 2 in college. It also shows your willingness to take a challenging course.
Three AP courses in total would be good. The lower number will also allow you to do really well in each and crank up your GPA.
