I think im gonna take about 6 or 7: 1 soph, 2 junior, and 3-4 senior just wondering other ppls opinion on an impressive amount.

Many people on CC take 11-12. Some more, some less.
I will have taken 12 by the end of this year.
Soph: 1
Junior: 4
Senior: 7

It totally depends on you as a person as well as the school you are attending. Personally, it wasn't that bad. Still hung out with friends every weekend and got in trouble and played a varsity sport and the usual profile boosting activities. Some schools make AP classes more accessible than others and colleges recognize that. There are many threads on this subject.

it really depends on if the person can handle the load and which APs you are taking sometimes. Like this girl I know, super amazingly smart and hardworking and she is taking either 5 or 6 APs her junior year(she'll probably end up having taken around 13 by the time she graduates) but for some people that just tend to struggle more academically taking more than 1 a year is amazing for them! You should take a good amount that won't kill you! Also some schools don't have too many AP courses I guess

Personally I'll end up with 10(1 soph, 4 junior, 5 senior).

If you apply to UCs then it does not matter that much for UCD and UCSD, they go strictly by the number of a-g exceed 35. A lot of people take hard classes have crappy GPA and then got rejected from UCD and UCSD point system.

It all depends on what you can pull an A in, I suppose. I've got 1 for junior year, 3 or 4 senior year.

Someone else on this site once said that the average number of APs taken by HYPS-type admitees was 4. (Sorry, I don't have anything to back this up other than my memory).

I'll be taking 13 during HS.

I'm taking 10, but is essentially impossible to take any more than 13 at my school as we are on traditional schedule.

im gonna end up taking 5 or 6, but there are people at my school that take that many in one year.

I'm taking 11: 1 sophomore, 5 junior, 5 senior. Really, just take as many as you feel you can without jeopardizing your grades in them.

Bingo.

The max number I can ever remember one of my classmates taking was 4, although I'm sure that a very, very small handful may have taken 5. Total, not at once. This includes Ivy + similar admits (HYPS among them). No AP courses were offered before junior year, and I can only remember 1-2 cases of students taking more than 3 at one time.

At some schools, this would have been seen as a very light courseload for high achievers. At other schools, it wouldn't have been possible to handle even that many AP's, either due to lack of offerings or course rigor. I believe that my school offered 9 AP's total, but that includes multiple languages + art. It might now offer 11-12, but knowing the new courses that have been added, the typical load probably hasn't changed much, if at all.

Talk to your GC, talk to your teachers, take cues from your peers, challenge yourself to the greatest degree that you're able (and I mean that you're able, not that your school lets you), and don't worry about anyone else. Period.
