How many classes a semester?

I have read that the max class limit without petitioning is 5.5. How many classes do most people take?

"Extra Courses
Students may register for a maximum of 5.5 credits each semester. To add an additional credit, students must petition their class dean for permission. Such permission is rarely granted to first-year students."

Some take 4, some 4.5, some 5, some 5.5.

I think it's better to take at least 5 at first, and since you're a freshman your drop date is later than everyone else's. This way, if you're doing poorly in a class you can drop it and still have 4 credits.

most ppl take 4 or 5. I wouldn't recommend taking more than that

You do have to take a couple semesters with 5 courses, but for the most part, you can take 4. I even took 3 once and got away with it but that was a special circumstance.

Is 5 managable? because 5 classes by 8 semesters would be 40 classes while 4 by 8 would be 32 allowing for more electives

Do very many students stick around over the summer to take classes?

bump......

why would they do that???

^^take 5 classes a semester? why not if it is managable?

I was refering to travelgirl18's question

Tufts has classes over the summer, so I was just wondering how many people took them. I know a lot of people at other schools who take classes over the summer to make the regular school year a little less stressful, or if they have a double major it helps to make sure that they get out in four years.

^ Yeah, I'm curious about this as well, since I'll most likely be double-majoring...

^^That is my interest as well, the double-majoring

Is 5 managable? because 5 classes by 8 semesters would be 40 classes while 4 by 8 would be 32 allowing for more electives. anyone?

^ Well, no...taking 5 classes a semester doesn't mean you take less electives, it would only mean more, as you would have more spots available for them, especially by senior year, when you've all but covered all requirements by taking 5 classes/semester.

Some people take classes over the summer, but it's mostly pre-med students who do that so that they can study abroad or not have to double up on science classes. Most students take 4 or 5 classes a semester, but taking more than that is very tough to manage.

^^Yeah I must of mistyped when I said 32 classes would provide more electives than 40.
