Just curious to see the range in here.

I'll post mine now, so people don't think I'm altering it because of other replies.

I have about a total of 400 hours, working at several different places, and also self-instrumented opportunities.

I have around 20. >_>

I should really get to work on volunteering more, but I really don't enjoy it.

Its okay. Its not the only way people get accepted.

What really interests you? That is the best way to volunteer. I hated volunteering and just doing random shifts or soup kitchen dates. The best thing for me was when I was able to take my passion for art and convert that into volunteering with other people. You have to find what interests you and use that when volunteering. There is most definitely a way to volunteer with whatever interest you might have. I promise that.

250~, A lot of the things I do community service wise don't give any hours, like organizing a projct to collect money/food.

I'm mainly interested in politics and law, and I've thought about trying to get involved with local board meetings and whatnot, but it never really panned out. I'm a rising junior, so I've got time to find some places to get hours in - I have so much respect for all of you with hundreds of hours, though. I don't think I could ever be that dedicated or compassionate, so more power to ya.

The hundreds of hours, don't even matter that much anymore. I stopped counting because its hard at this point to count everything you do. And plus, its not about the numbers, right?

Most of my hours came in the summers to be honest though. Its alot easier than you think to rack up a chunk of hours. And if you're interested in politics and law why not join one of the campaigns and get involved, even if you can't vote in this election. I volunteer where I live with the Young Democrats and I'm a new member to the Obama Campaign's O-train Volunteer Staff.

I've been trying to figure out how to become an Obama campaign volunteer. How did you get that job and what do you do in it? Thanks! :)

Ahh, its really easy. Actually you just sign up on his website as a volunteer, and I get emails all the time from them letting me know whenever there is a volunteer opportunity where I live. Then I simply just go for them, and if you need to record hours just take the hours sheet with you and have any organizer sign it for you. They will be more than happy to do that for you.

What kind of volunteering have you done? The main things available near me have to do with helping to register voters, and I'm not sure how much help a 16 y/o would be there..?

Well, about 30-40 hours. These mostly include volunteering hours made at the Open day at my school for both Arts and Amnesty, class tours to raise awareness about human rights, some help at the Painting symposium organized by my science teacher, plus help with my Community Service adviser for community projects I'm trying to start. There's also the annual Christmas baskets we help making every year. Apparently, they all count toward service hours... says my adviser.

I wanted to volunteer at my community center, but they need help only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and I babysit a lot those days. But I'm only 14 years-old, so either they want someone older, or there's no opportunities to volunteer for something I like.

300+ (10 char.)

50 hrs so far

About 140-150

ahh, don't worry about them not wanting you because you're sixteen.
try to erase any skeptic attidude you might have, and just get out there and try something new volunteering. if you don't like it, you don't have to do it again. and trust me campaigns want you, they really do, it doesn't matter how old you are.

Well, I gave them my email, so we'll see what they need me for. ;)

only around 50. really doesnt seem like much compared to some ccers

450? Maybe more?

200 something? I volunteer with the little kids at a school. I love it :)

Hey, if you get anything interesting on the Obama front let me know. Its something I've always wanted to do :)
