I work as a tour guide at the state historical museum.

I usually had 16 credits and worked 30-40 hours per week. It was only tough when major papers were due in all classes at roughly the same time. I would usually get someone to cover one or two of my shifts when that happened rather than call off or ignore schoolwork.

chandi, you work 20 hrs/wk tutoring? That’s 4 hrs/day. How many subjects?

I would like to shoot for 20-25 hrs this semester. But the thing is, a lot of my research involves waiting for experiments to finish, and I can’t really get to the next step until I run analysis on my samples. Right now, I have 100 samples to run, with 70 minutes on each sample, which is absolutely not happening…

There are actually 35 subjects I’m qualified to tutor, but I don’t tutor nearly that many in any given semester. I tutor in our walk-in centers as well. This semester I’ll be spending 10 hours per week in the walk-in center for statistics or in the walk-in center for lower level math courses (college algebra, liberal arts math, pre-calc) as needed. I’ll be spending 6 hours per week in the walk-in center for general chemistry, and 4 hours per week doing scheduled appointments for upper level courses (not sure what yet, depends who signs up for my blocks.)

oh that’s a little different than the way we do it. Here, we actually pair tutors with 1 or more students who schedule meetings on a regular basis so the tutor is actually more of a TA. Would’ve stayed in the business, but they don’t pay me enough :/

In my most recent semester at Boise State, I was taking about 15 credits, working a school job about 10-15 hours a week and then working an internship about 20-25 hours a week. Needless to say, I was pretty busy, but after graduating, it worked out. Although, I didn’t get far since I’m working for Boise State still but in a “big kid job” type of thing with their Beyond the Blue program ([Beyond the Blue Faculty Podcasts - Boise State University](http://beyondtheblue.boisestate.edu)).

I work 5-10 hours a week at most. I get another 10 hours or so in with volunteering. Does that count?

And I’m only doing 13 credit hours this semester. It’s my first semester of college, so.

I work about 25-30 hours/week at a local gas station, and I’m currently taking 13 credit hours at school. It’s not too bad, but working nights (usually from 5 -11, sometimes later) really messes me up at times, especially when I have class each day first thing in the morning.

watching jersey shore reminded me of this thread, and it ticked me off a little. just putting it out there.

I worked about 45-50 hours a week in a research lab when in undergrad. I do not recommend it unless you absolutely need the money.
