I want to major in International Relations in college and I am really interested in the social studies department. Since my school has such great teachers for history, I've taken many electives in that area. These are the ss electives I've taken so far and that are on my schedule for next year (going to be a junior):
-intro to human behavior
-genocide studies
- law society and politics
-modern Africa
These are the classes I hope to take senior year:
-ap government
-ap psych

I also am taking ap us history next year. The electives listed above are more than half of what I can take. Am I too social studies strong? Could this hurt me on college applications?

Colleges like to see that you are Well rounded and passionate
so as long as you have your math, science and english class then u just do what you want.
If social studies is your thing then go for it.

My schedule is full/will be full of Social Sciences, and Sciences because thats my future

They are legit classes, we have WONDERFUL social studies teachers at my school who are really passionate about what they’ve studied and have managed to create all these classes for us

Just saying, but someone I know next year is taking 4 electives out of a possible 4/5 to choose from, so there’s no such thing as too many. I myself am doubling up on social studies classes next year. :)

But those classes you’re taking sound amazing. I’d give an arm and a leg to take a Genocide Studies class in HS. (but i’m happy with my picks)

My friend didn’t take Social Studies at all his last 2 years of high school and he still got into International Relations at a pretty good college. As long as you have your core stuff down and the electives you do take you do well in, it won’t effect admissions at all.

I took the most social studies classes in my school’s history.

Economics
Political Science
World Civ
APUSH
AP Euro
AP Gov
Sociology (college)
Psychology (college)

I wish I had the money to take World Geography at the college! I didn’t get any geography in high school! I also signed up for “Special Topics in History” which was…what it sounds like. But, only two people signed up for it so they canceled it.
