How many letters of recommendation max?

How many letters of recommendation letters can we send? I am sending 4 (2 teachers, 1 guidance counselor, and 1 rec from a hospital I was volunteering at). My friend wants to send 5. Is his 5 too much? He says he heard from someone that there is a max of 4.

"Applicants to JHU can submit additional letters of recommendation (from another teacher, coach, employer, activity advisor, etc.) but we strongly advise that a student not submit more than 4 total letters of recommendation."

thank you =D

Using the Search function will help with questions like this ... as flybyzephyr shows.

I'd also recommend the Hopkins Forums as there is already a discussion thread about Letters of Recommendation: <a href="http://z14.invisionfree.com/Hopkins_Forums/index.php?showtopic=517%5B/url%5D">http://z14.invisionfree.com/Hopkins_Forums/index.php?showtopic=517</a></p>

And finally, the strong recommendation is a maximum of 4 letters. All that is required is one letter from your guidance counselor and one letter from a teacher. Students have submitted more than 4 before, but the Admissions Committee would prefer that applicants didn't do that.

I from the information session that someone submitted 43 letters before! (a baltimore applicant, lol)... did they get in?

Yes we have had in the past years numerous applicants send an over-abundance of letters of recommendations. In almost every circumstance those students are not admitted ... not because they sent too many letters, but there were serious deficiencies in their application already. Probably one of the reasons they submitted so many letters.
