As someone who interviews a lot of candidates, the first thing I look at is someone shoes. The reason - it is the smallest detail in completing an outfit. If a candidate makes sure his/her shoes are clean and appropriate than it shows he/she pays attention to small details.

Well that was random.

Where in the northeast are you going?

I’m guessing you won’t get an inch of snow the entire first semester.

Uggggggggggg.

No, it not random just because you don’t get it.

In college, you are only 4 years away from getting a real job. Having a pair of sneakers and boots just not going to do it. Having proper shoes for different occasions is expected as you get older, especially if you are going to interview on campus or going to some more formal affairs.

^ Surely that’s plenty of time to buy a pair of shoes.

Nobody dresses up to class you dolt.

oldfort, please stop trying to justify women’s incessant need to buy shoes.

My D was the same as oldfort’s. 30+. If she already owned them, she took them and she found room for them at school. There wasn’t any reason to leave them at home.

o.o wow… i only have a pair of sandles and sneakers that come with me.

And snowboots aren’t needed imo, sneakers work just fine.

1 pair of rainboots
2 pairs of regular boots (high heel black, flat brown)
1 pair of snow boots (not Uggs, though)
3 pairs of flipflops (only really wore two)
4 pairs of heels (really only wore two of them)
3 pairs of flats (bought 2 more while at school)

No sneakers.

The boots were kind of a pain to store, but the flats and heels were easy. I got one of those over-the-door organizers with individual compartments. I just put a pair of shoes in each compartment (relatively easy for flats and flipflops) and used the remaining compartments for other things. You can get something like that at BB&B, and then it’ll be easy to store lots of shoes.

I have a relatively high turnover for shoes; I usually end up buying a pair or two while I’m at school and throwing out some old ones. This is especially true for flats, since I wear them more often. My campus’s poor pavement is not kind to the bottoms of shoes.

A lot of girls at my school have extensive shoe collections. We’re a relatively formal campus. People do wear heels to class. I’ve done it.

This is what I was planning on bringing. It may be slightly a little much, but I don’t think it’s completely unreasonable at all. I do like to switch shoes up with my outfit and I know everything will be used except for maybe the just-in-case dressy shoes:

-2 sneakers- 1 new nike shox and 1 older but still in good condition pair for working out/the park or something
-1 pair of black flats that can be dressed up or down
-1 pair of canvas utility-esque type flat (really cute and goes with a lot since it’s a neutral tan)
-1 pair of mules/those slip on clogs ya know? They’re plaid
-1 pair of the slip on slipper-looking Uggs
-1 pair of the Ugg moccasins
-5 flip flops- leather, silver, patterned black and silver, Nike slides (like the Adidas ones), and plain black ones for around the dorm
-a pair of boots that I have yet to buy
-Maybe some slip on vans or boat shoes, idk which I want more
-I have a really cute pair of strappy, formal, platform sandals, like 4.5 inches tall that I ADORE. I probably won’t use them but might bring them anyways. Might use them at Halloween.

I’m definitely a minimalist. But I understand the importance of having a variety of shoes. This fall I’ll be taking:

1 Pair Of Steve Madden Oxfords (Casual)

2 Pairs Of Black Flats (One Casual, One Dressy)

2 Pairs Of Boots (One For Rain, One For Warmth)

2 Pairs Of Flip Flops (Shower, Lounge)

1 Pair Of Black Heels (Formal)

1 Pair Of Chucks

I’ll be bringing the following:

3 Pairs of Flip Flops (1 for Shower, Two for Everyday Wear)

2 Pairs of High Heels (2 Colors to Match Different Formal Outfits)

1 Pair of Converse (For days too cold for flip flops but not enough activity for sneakers)

1 Pair of Sketchers (For high activity where I need good support)

1 Pair of Snow Boots (Well, for snow/slushy winter weather)

Not really a shoe girl. I just like having at least one pair for most of the regular occasions you might encounter.

Dude, all I’m bringing is one pair of Converse, one pair of running kicks, maybe flip flops / slippers and like, a pair of rainboots. And probably one decent pair of flats. And I’m a girl. :/

ummm… yeah… i do believe i have the lowest shoe count so far at 2 :D

Wow, it seems that the majority of students own/bring way more shoes than I do… I guess I choose to spend my money on other things.

Anyways, I have:
3 pairs of lo-top Chucks (all different patterns/colors)
1 pair of flip-flops for the shower
1 pair of heels (which I only wear about twice a year)
1 pair of brown dress shoes
And I may or may not bring a pair of clogs.

I live in MN but have never worn snow or rain boots. I find that Chucks work just fine (of course, I don’t mind my feet getting a bit wet/cold). To tell the truth, I wear most of my shoes so infrequently that I could probably pare it down to two pairs relatively comfortably.

I’m going to school in CA and I have -

1 pair of sneakers
2 pairs of flats
1 pair of walking shoes (to relieve my feet from the flip flops!)
4 pairs of flip flops

1 pair of shower shoes
1 pair of slippers

And that kind of seemed excessive.

EDIT: I forgot the S’s in PAIRS. I have a small town accent and we don’t pluralize PAIR for whatever reason.

Quote:
"So… does 7 pairs seem excessive for a guy? "

Nope, I am a guy who has about 20 pairs of shoes [most are not too common Italian or French sneakers like common projects, lanvins, neil barrett, costume national homme ect.].

I don’t remember exactly how many I brought last year (too many), but this year I’m bringing:
2 pairs of heels (I wore them more than I thought I was going to last year)
2-4 pairs of flats (I live in flats. Call me preppy.)
3 pairs of Uggs (Grey, brown, black, and (I lied) my pink ones. Yes, I have pink Uggs. No, I don’t care.)
4 pairs of flip-flops (When it hits 60 degrees, I wear flip-flops. 2 casual, 1 dressy, 1 crap pair I use for the shower)
2 pairs of Chuck Taylors
2 pairs of sneakers (1 nice pair, 1 pair of old crappy cheerleading shoes)
1 pair of running shoes
and…
My really fancy shoes. They are high end designer, they’re worth more than my life, and I take them everywhere I go because I love them. And yes, I do actually wear them.

I have a real shoe addiction. I am seeking no treatment for this addiction ;)

i took too many shoes. i still think i needed them all though!

1 patent black pumps
1 violet printed pumps
1 fuschia maryjane pumps
1 strappy gold heels
1 patent black wedges
