How many pairs of shoes do girls need in college?

I am a girl and going to college in the North East. I am thinking about taking 2 pairs of Uggs and one pair of waterproof boots. 2 pairs of sandals, and 3 pairs of flip-flops, one pair of tennis shoes. However, I can't choose how many flats and heels to pack. I don't have many heels, and I'll probably just take 1 pair. But flats? I have about 8 pairs, and just can't decide how many I will need, and I am not sure when it gets too cold for flats... converse, dressy flats, comfy ones...
How many pairs of shoes are you taking?

I took 2 pairs of Uggs (very different from each other), 1 pair of snow boots, 1 pair of shower shoes, 1 pair of comfy dorm flipflops (these can also be slippers), 1 pair of sneakers, 1 pair of Converse, and 1 pair of flats. I also bought a second pair while I was up there.

I personally think I over did it and will be leaving the Converse (too uncomfortable for a full day of walking), a pair of Uggs (didn’t wear one pair enough so not worth it) and a pair of flats (ditto). Bring a neutral color like black. I wish I has brought rain boots (I go to school in an area with a ton of rain fall).

It depends on what you’re planning on doing. At my school, people go downtown all the time and wear heels/flats… I didn’t bring enough this year. On the flip side, I didn’t wear all the Vans slip-ons and gym shoes I brought (3 pair of each), so I’ll be leaving those except for home, except for one pair of gym shoes.

It depends on you. Realistically, how many of shoes do you cycle through in a two-week (season general) period?

I brought way too many shoes my first semester and I’m a shoe-aholic.
I think 2 flats, 2 sneakers, 1 pair of “universal” (goes with any occassion and outfit), and 1-2 boots will suffice.

But this is for me. It may not work for you or someone not obsessed with shoes (like me, haha)

Pay attention to what you usually wear in a time frame and try to mimic it when packing

You may have too many already. Last year I brought two pairs of heels, four pairs of flip flops, one pair of flats, three pairs of running shoes (one for daily wear, one for the gym, and one for work-- I need a junk pair of shoes for work), two pairs of “fashion athletic” shoes, and some rainboots and I had way more than I needed.

Next year I am going to bring three flip flops (one casual, two dressier), one pair of running shoes, one pair of dressy flats (maybe one casual pair), my rainboots, my snow boots, and I think that’s it. Maybe one pair of heels, too. I dunno. That still seems like way too much. lol. But shoes can be some of the hardest things to store if you bring too many, and one of the easiest things to go overboard on. I would try your best to be minimalist. I will have to consider my shoe collection again, I’d like to get it down to five somehow. My roommate brought somewhere between 50 and 100 pairs of shoes, I kid you not, and she never wore more than five of them.

ETA: True story. Last year I didn’t bring my chucks, and after my ankle gave out on the landing as I tumbled down the stairs like three times in two weeks, I had to have my mom bring them up to give my ankles more support. XD

I’m not a shoe person (foot injury, can’t wear most shoes so I take an “I hate shoes!” perspective), so I have maybe 2 pairs of flats and no heels.

Along with that, I have a pair of rainboots, one pair of running shoes, and 2 pairs of converses (how do people find them uncomfortable? I could live in chucks).

If your school is in an area with a lot of rain, rainboots are seriously a must.

Johnson181- I have high arches so it can get really uncomfortable with no support… And yeah rainboots are required. You can wear them in the snow as well as long as it isn’t too icy.

BTW OP, I take you aren’t from the Northeast?

Ah, fair enough. I have normal arches so I wouldn’t have thought of that. I’d be perfectly happy walking everywhere barefoot, which is why I like chucks I guess.

No, I live in Cali, but I’m originally from north-eastern europe.

You need a pair of sneakers if you’ll be working in a science lab, a pair of soccer cleats if you want to play competitive sports, and a pair of sandals for everything else.

the simple bare necessities.

Sneakers fare pretty well against the snow imo.

I got frost bitten toes literally every year in high school because I flatly refused to wear anything but sneakers. I invested in snowboots this year and will never look back.

So… does 7 pairs seem excessive for a guy?

are you from Alaska?

See the way I see it, snow has an insulating effect, so it actually somewhat protects your feet from the searing wind. I’ve biked in near 0 F temperature wearing sneakers, but the main worry had been my knees.

I think my daughter had close to 30+ pairs, plus she left some at home. She had flats, boots, high heels (open toes and pumps), sandals, 1 pair of sneakers…Most of them she had in multiple colors. Even in flats she had ballerina flats and loafers. With boots she had low/high heels, knee and ankles, water proof.

North East, c-c-c-c-c-cold

ISUClub-- searing wind is not the problem, it’s your feet getting wet. I am from Michigan.

oldfort-- how did she store all those? I want to bring more shoes than I think is reasonable and if I can figure out how to store them I will. lol.

Nah. I’m a guy and I have about that many (a pair of Topsiders, my Dunks, my Jordans, running shoes, dressy wing tips, nicer boots, and my Tims which are essential for Cornell winters)

I’m a girl in the Northeast:

sneakers
comfy flat shoes to wear most of the time - like ballet flats or Topsiders : )
boots for fall/winter
rainboots
heels
flip flops or sandals

how many of each is up to you, but I brought 1 pair of sneakers, 1 pair of flip flops, 2 pairs of heels, 1 pair of rainboots, 1 pair of leather boots, and 3 pairs of flats for the whole year - that’s 9 pairs total.

Also my roommate had like 20 pairs of shoes! She stored them in an Over-the-Door Shoe Organizer like this and had a shoe rack in her closet as well. You can get these at Target or Walmart or whatever.

Before I state this, I am just joking so don’t get offended…

Question: How many pairs of shoes do girls need in college

Answer: One pair

Pairs of shoes said girl will bring?: Over 9000

V_V I have seen entire wardrobes of shoes from girls…

She has shoe hanging thing behind her closet door, dorm door, and underneath her bed. Her school is 3 hours from home, so she would swap her shoes each season. Her shoes match her outfit.
