How many shoes is too many?

How many shoes should I bring to college? + I'm an athlete so there's a lot of shoes

You’re going to live at school, not at home. If you need them, bring them.

Space is going to be at a minimum if you’re dorming.

This depends on the person. Personally, I get by just fine with a single pair of shoes. Some girls “absolutely cannot live” without at least 5 different pairs of shoes though.

It’s good to have a few different kinds I suppose. Some comfortable tennis shoes, a pair of dressier shoes, some running shoes since you’re an athlete. If you think you’re going to legitimately need them, then bring them.

Can I just ask quickly what being an athlete has to do with the number of shoes you need/own? Just curious because it doesn’t make sense to me.
Pretty much the same answer as others, if you think you’ll need them, bring them, but remember that dorms can be small. A suggestion to conserve space if you’re planning to bring a lot of shoes is to invest in a shoe rack! I’m getting one for myself because I’m planning to bring like 10 or so pairs of shoes with me because I’m a shoe obsessed 20 something girl lol

Agree with above posters. Also, if you are going back home for Thanksgiving, you can swap out your warmer weather shoes for boots and whatnot (if you are going to be living in a city that cools down significantly in the fall&winter haha).

@lang when you’re an athlete you already get (i think) 2 pairs of shoes. Like, if you’re a football player you’ll need one shoes for the gym and than the cleats for the field ( is it called like that lol ?)…

Being an athlete, unless you’re talking about like 5 different sports, is going to add at most two pairs of shoes.

If you have one comfy pair of tennis shoes, a nicer pair of dressier shoes, plus your two pairs for athletics…I’d think you’d be fine.

As I said before though, I get by just fine with a single pair of shoes. I’m not an athlete though, so I suppose that does make a difference.

You should consider swimming: NO shoes & Speedo-sized storage-space needs

Depends on the person. Bring what you need.

For me, I have my standard pair of shoes, an older pair of shoes (usually my most recently “retired” pair) mostly for if it’s raining, flip flops, and a pair of dress shoes.

I’m bringing my soccer cleats, track spikes, running shoes (possibly a second pair of running shoes), worn out running shoes (over 300 miles logged on them) for walking around places (I don’t walk in the same shoes I run in), dress shoes, and some casual nonrunning shoes haha

LOL on the sports/shoes. My son’s into triathlons, so bikes, swims, runs, and works out at the gym. To get a better swimming workout, he wears big long fins. And he has biking shoes, running shoes, gym shoes (which can double for regular everyday shoes). And one dressy pair of shoes.

Ask Imelda Marcos.

I’m definitely not an athlete and I’m bringing a lot of shoes: black pumps, black open toes, two pairs of athletic shoes, boat shoes, rain boots, two pairs of athletic sandals, and two dress sandals. Plus cheap flip flops for showering. In winter I’ll swap everything out for warm boots since I live close to campus. A girl can never have too many shoes! Rotating shoes often makes them last a long time, in my opinion. Gives them a chance to breathe after being on smelly feet all day!

i have over 20 pairs of shoes im bringing to college most of them are heels with only 3 pairs of them being sneakers. I love heels and don’t like wearing the same ones all the time. I have space for them in the dorm closet because I dont care about them being in order since i throw them on the floor in there anyway at home. im used to having a huge pile of shoes in my closet. you can bring as many shoes as you want as long as you wear them all. although if you ant them all neat you should get a hanging shoe rack that goes over the door.

No offense, but I feel bad for your roommate if you have one. I don’t even think 20 pairs of shoes would fit in our dorm closets. If you bring that many, you better be sure you’re not taking more than half of the space- even if your roommate doesn’t have that much stuff.

^20 pairs wouldn’t fit in my son’s dorm closet. And the closet didn’t have a door - it had a drape. They would fit in bins under the bed (but then the other stuff under the bed would be homeless).

i have a single room my dorm is suit style. we have a closet with a door.

I’m bringing a tote full of shoes… Everything from running shoes to boat shoes to leather riding boots… But fortunately I get my own closet.

If you have your own closet, then the sky is the limit. As long as you can reasonably fit them in there, bring as many as you want. In cases of shared closet space though, the situation is a lot different. If you have a pile of shoes on your side that is constantly migrating over to the other side, it could cause a bit of a conflict.

We have separate closets with little wardrobes in our dorms! I would never bring so many shoes if it would mean encroaching on my roommate’s space.
