<p>Hey guys, As I apply to DUKE ED, I want to know:</p>
<p>ESPECIALLY for Early Decision, how many people are actually planning on submitting additional material? I guess, in my case, being a male dancer, out of the 1300 ED applicants to Trinty, how many male dancers do you think would submit optional dance material?</p>
<p>I did...and I'm here now. Moreover, I got letters from the Music department before arriving, and they already knew who I was (and remembered my CD) when I went to audition for the orchestra. So the submission wound up doing me good long after the acceptance letter. I'd say it's definitely worth it.</p>
<p>With that said, I would only suggest sending it in if it's really, really good. If it isn't, it may work against you in the application process...and even if it doesn't and you are accepted, that whole "they might remember your application once you're here" thing may come back to bite you in the butt if you plan to continue the activity while here.</p>
<p>But in the my field as mentioned above...I doubt that there are a number of male dancers submitting DVDS and tapes. I am addressing this issue in terms of competition. I am pretty sure that in music, competition must be insane.</p>
<p>I'm not sure yet, but I think that I might send in a tape...</p>
<p>What instrument(s) do you play bandcampgirl? I have been playing saxophone and cello for a while, but I am afraid to send in the extra materials.</p>
<p>I play violin. Honestly, if you've been doing it for a while and/or think it's one of your strong points I really would suggest sending it in. If it's just something you do every so often and it's not really one of your major strengths, that's when I'd suggest leaving it out.</p>
<p>DukeDevil - If it's a strong submission, then it will help you. But just make sure it's a strong submission, or else it won't really matter how "rare" of a talent it is. With that said, yes, I personally think that the fact that it's very unique will help you a lot.</p>
<p>likewise, if you're stressing out (about making a recording, etc), don't worry about it. i didn't send in any extra materials and i got in ED...and i'm also now in the orchestra. however, getting to know the faculty is a good thing - i met with the trumpet prof here when i came out for blue devil days. we kept in contact over the summer and then he was at my audition...so that was a bit of a stress relief.</p>
<p>however, it is true - they have been ratcheting up the level of performance ensembles over the past couple of years. it definitely wouldn't hurt to send something in.</p>
