How many people are on the frosh waitlist for Fall 2013?

Is there going to be more than one batch of acceptances?

@spydernyx: yeah that’s what I meant, it’s posted in the portal of course. Congrats on getting in! :)

Is anyone still waiting for their decision??? :(

Can those who were accepted off the waitlist please say their major and college?

accepted for pre-econ at CLS, am from france btw

I was accepted as Undeclared for L&S and I am an international applicant from Germany

accepted as a pre-political science major at L&s

I’m still waiting for their decision, I hope they admit me. Congrats to the students who got admitted!

can you guys post your stats? ie. gpa and stuff. i REALLY want to know my chances.

@theshowgoeson. no im waiting too! i really want to get in. this is really scaring me. but at least i should be optimistic that they’re using the waitlist this year!

SAT: 1840
GPA: 3.4 uw, 3.8 ish weighted
very good essays
lots of extracurriculars, including setting up a charitable foundation with some friends
several academic awards

I also think the fact that I’m an international applicant has helped me, and I sent in an appeal aswell with 2 teacher recommendations.

Good luck!

I didn’t receive anything. I am so scared that it will reject me!!!

Daughter was accepted off the waitlist on Saturday morning, 5/4/13. Decided to take a road trip on early Sunday morning from Northern California to Santa Barbara, just to check out the campus again. Cold and gloomy day, but both daughter and I still really like the campus! (Disappointed that we couldn’t track down a t-shirt cuz the bookstore was closed on Sundays.) Daughter has already submitted SIR to UC Davis (undeclared, biological sciences), but must now decide on whether to go to Santa Barbara (undeclared, letters and sciences). She likes both campuses and is having a hard time deciding.

SAT: 1880
GPA: 4.2
Decent essays, Extracurriculars (sports, work, clubs, internship).

is there a specific order of how SB send out acceptances?? is it by last names, colleges or just random?

definitely not by last names because I am all the way at the bottom for that!
I mean they send out acceptances in groups. I think (my personal opinion, idk if its true or not) that they first send out acceptances to people at the top of the list (they review the applications again when making waitlist decisions). You have one week to reply to the offer, and if not enough people SIR then the next decisions get sent out. So I don’t think it’s random

@cgsw23 did you get in through appeal? do you know anyone who got in without appealing? because im not sure if that counts against me.

I got in with a 3.5 uw gpa
1690 sat score
2 on AP Lang comp test
Was in var sport
Had few extracurricular :)

Vanesshaa did you do an appeal? and was the result on your portal or did they email you first?

No I did not appeal. I was only opted for the waitlist back in march. They emailed me Friday saying that decisions have started being posted so I went to check my app status and it said I was admitted.

@tawnyt: I did send in an appeal. However, I dont know whether I got in because of the appeal or the waitlist, because they don’t tell you specifically. But my strong guess is that it was the waitlist, seeing that others got off the waitlist aswell, so they are definitely using it. I really do not think that I got in because of my appeal, because my appeal was bad to be honest haha

For anybody who is on the waitlist but is scared that not sending in an appeal has hurt their chances with the waitlist: I sent UCSB an email before sending off my appeal, asking if appealing will affect my chances to get in from the waitlist in any way, and the answer is NO. Handing in an appeal will NOT increase your chances of getting in off the waitlist, but it will also not HARM your chances of getting in. So, for future applicants, if you’re on the waitlist I think you should also appeal, because you have nothing to lose. If your appeal gets denied you will still be on the waitlist. I got this information directly from the Admissions Office.
