Can anyone look up some statistics (I tried) and give me an exact number or percentile as to how many students get a 2300+ on their SATs?

Not a lot, I can tell you they are far beyond the 99% even.

Check this out: http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/scores/understanding/average.html

I'm guessing that about 20,000 kids get a 2300+....2 million take the SAT and about 1% is 20,000.

True, but it's quite possible that even less than 1% make 2300+, a score like that is no joke. :)

I know.....wait I think the number might be like 8,200 or 10,000: NMSF!

Yup, 8,200-10,000 number of 2300+ it is...

Its reasonable to guess that AT MAX 10,000 students get a 2300+, that's the number of NMSFs.

NMSF are based off the NMSQT (PSAT), not the SAT.
Plus, I'm a NM Finalist with a 228 PSAT.

ETA: I got a 2300+ on the SAT (basically contradicting myself here), and I was 99th percentile for Math and CR (Writing wouldn't tell me), so I think 20,000 is probably close to the number of 2300+ scores.

Okay then 10,000 to 20,000 it is....I wish College Board would tell us.

This is slightly off topic, but i've especially noticed this at my school (in the midwest, of course)
So far we have 5 bright flight scholars at our school ( a state scholarship program if you get a 30+ on your ACT). we had one kid get a 34, 3 with a 32 (thats me) and one with a 30. (out of a class of 380). however... I am the only one that is even considering ivies/top tier schools. the other kids, one is going to univ. of missouri, one is going to univ. central florida, one is going to washington university (ok i guess washU IS a top tier school.. but u get the idea). what gets me is these kids for the most part have a higher GPA than me, and one of them for sure (the girl w/ a 34) would have a RAELLY good shot at HPY, but she isn't trying. I don't get why a lot of kids aren't shooting higher.. i mean i know its not th emost important thing in the world to go to a good school... but how can you "settle" for university of missouri, when you get a 34 ACT as a junior??? I mean it kinda makes me wonder, but on the other hand, happy, because there's just less competition that way.
maybe its because i go to a public schoool? anyone experience things like this at their school?

Rightwing, I don't know what it's like in your area, but there are a lot of people with circumstances different than yours. The Ivies are some of the most expensive colleges in country. That's definitely very important; I heard somewhere that most of the 1 in 5 people who turn down a Harvard acceptance do so because of financial issues.

It's always financial reasons.....ALMOST ALWAYS.

It's understandable....

Is 99% as high as they go? If so, then 2300 plus scorers might actually be beyond that. (Like 99.5 or something).

I don't think they do percentages, and it's impossible to go to the next whole number because one obviously can't get a higher score than oneself.

99% is as high as they go, and I'm pretty sure the high 700s you need for 2300 are quite a bit above 99%.. also, a 2300+ score would require a couple high 700s or 800s so it's a few 99%+ combined = probably 99.5%+

Wasn't there some award for getting a perfect 2400? How many people got that?

99.5% on the old SAT was a 1540. Presumably this percentile is somewhat indicative of a 2300. Granted, these are single sitting scores, so there are probably maybe 50% more that get it through combined. For example, my friend and I scored 2290 and 2250 single sitting, but with combined scores we each have 2330.

I got a 2700 :)

ohh i see, i didn't know that about harvard turn-downs. but the people in my area like aren't rich.. but aren't poor. (middle to uppper-middle class). I thought the ivies met 100% of demonstrated need?

hahahah....funny rightwing...very funny:
100% demonstrated need means that it can be met with LOANS as well....

with writing, your in the 99th percentile with a 750.

I know about the writing thing....I heard that colleges are now going to begin considering the writing section more than ever...I THINK THEY SHOULD...some fools just don't know how to write.
