On my campus everything happens on Thursdays so I usually go out every thursdays and I work every Sundays. So that means I go out like 8-10 days a month. I even went out when I had exams the next week. I'm trying to cut down on my thursdays out going so I can improve my grades. What do you suggest? go out only two thursdays a month?

you really are incredible. Are you incapable of making a decision for yourself? How many times you go out when school is in session is entirely dependent on you, your abilities, and your goals. I knew kids who were drinking/smoking nearly every day and still getting incredible GPAs and people who barely went out at all and still doing horribly. If you want your grades to improve and you currently never work on thursdays and feel that you need to be doing more work, then yeah, you should cut back. It’s up to you whether you need to cut out 1, 2, 3, or 4 thursdays a month.

What do you mean by “go out”? Do you party or something?

I mean if you’re only doing it once per week (and sunday is a good time imo) what are you doing that would negatively impact your grade?

My instructor taught us this: 8-8-8 mechanic. You would want close to: 8 hours of sleep, 8 hour of work (academic for college) and 8 hours for free time(this include doing chores/jobs, video games, being on CC etc.) Obviously no one is going to achieve perfect 8’s each day but it’s worth a shot. This was designed to keep stress level down and improve your studying since you’re likely to fail/not study if you’re stress-out or doing too much sleep or free time.

I meant like hang out with friends/party/movies/going places I guess. Excluding getting food. And is the 8-8-8 mechanic per day or per week?

In general, how often do you guys go out per week/month?

Per day.
I go out whenever I fill like. So on average about 10 days per month. This includes weekdays.

My sons all “went out” daily. Club meetings, intramurals, other fun things. They also ate, slept, and studied daily.
There are 24 hours in a day and 7 days in a week. How you choose to use them is up to you.
Take a day planner and make a plan. Then stick to it.
It’s what adults do.

Im a junior (have to do an extra sem tho because I changed majors). I go out Thursday Friday and Saturday. 2 of those nights downtown/club/party- one night chill/date/hang out watch tv with friends. I play IMs one night and study and work the rest all day- I make it a point to get lunch with a friend every day of the week. Its very convenient and you have to be good managing time. One of my best friends from freshman year of uni pulled a .4 gpa and is in rehab now. He never went out after his gf broke up with him but he smoked 5-6 times a day and destroyed his life with drugs. You can go out and have a good time and still be okay- I have a 3.3 with it. Point being, I see people from my church, from class, from apartments etc out pretty constantly- these people have it on the ball and have fun but still study 4-5 hours a day 5 days a week. You can go out and drink and be on it- you will mess your life up if you want to doing anything. I know someone else who never partied but conversely never studied and she is 22 and casting around in her hometown with no job. AS LONG AS YOU PUT IN EFFORT TO DO WELL YOU WILL.

I hardly went out at all. Was more of an insider.

I go out anywhere from 0-3 days a week. I have approximately a 3.0 in engineering. It’s all about timing. You skip going out when you have homework, exams, need to sleep because school is killing you, etc. and go out when you can make it work. I’d say this month was more than usual and I’ve gone out partying 6 times this month, but I allow myself to be social like group study, grab coffee, etc. 2-4 times a well.

Haha this is such a ■■■■■■■■ question. Do what works for you. I’m pledging top fraternity at a somewhat prestigious university (UCLA) and still have time to make a 3.0 easily. That includes 2-3 social events every week in addition to Thursday Nights, brotherhood events, football games and countless pledge duties that take up the majority of my free time. It all depends on the individual…

rooster2k: “Take a day planner and make a plan. Then stick to it.
It’s what adults do.”

This apply only to some people. Some people manage their time effectively without a day planner. But it does indeed help.

I believe the most important point is to have at least some sort of plan. Know what you’re going to do and when.

It does depend on how you define “out.”

My friends and I will go “out” to the Starbucks across from campus to study, we’ll go “out” back to my house to have dinner with my mother, we’ll go “out” to the city’s library to use their technology; we’ll physically leave campus and have fun, but we’re also studying sometimes as well. And then there’s working at the writing center, which helps hone my own skills and thus prepare for my major, French Club where I speak in French and sharpen those skills, etc.

I’d say I go “out out” as in completely leaving campus/hanging around campus for non-academic reasons once a week. Sometimes none if I have a lot of academic responsibilities.

You just have to take it day-by-day, really.
