How many times can you take the SATs?

I know that you can take as many SAT's as you want.

But on the radio as well as from a college prep counselor, I heard that you should only take it 3 times because if you take a certain SAT more that 3 times, your scores will all be added to give an average.

For example, you take 6 sat 1 tests. This means that your scores will be averaged, instead of the college taking the highest one

Is this true????

from what i kno, you can take the SAT as many times as you want and colleges will take your highest score. No average. Its just that its advisable not to take it more than 3 times. See lets say you scored a 1400 on your first try. If you take it the second time, you'll probably only increase by 20-30pts. Also if you take it 6 times u must be a retard. Now with the ACT, i would take it until i got like around 32-36 range cuz you can chose your score there

I have also heard that you shouldn't take the SAT 4 times. I don't think it's true that "after 3 they take the average of your scores", but rather it just looks bad.

3 times............

i heard that colleges only advise you to take it 3 times, b/c after that, it will most likely be a waste of money....not sure if that's true though...never heard anything of the "after 3 they take the average of your scores" deal though...

Well, i doubt collegeboard would say it's a "a waste of your money" especially since they're in it for profits, however... it's pretty much no more than 3. And I agree... if you take it more than that and you screw up that many times...

You can take it as many times as you want-most people don't go up after 3 tries, but you may not be most people. I feel-What do colleges care? I don't really think it matter whether you got a 1600 after the first try or the 5th try-the point is that you got it.
