So far I have taken the ACT 6 times including the one from last Saturday October 22. My scores have gone 24, 27, 28, 29, and 28. I haven’t gotten my scores back yet for the one on Saturday but I honestly think that I didn’t do so good. I really want a 31 so that I can get enough merit aid at Creighton University to bring the cost of attendance down to 15,000 a year because that is all my parents can afford. I was wondering if it would be worth it to take the test again to be able to get a 31. Is taking the ACT 7 times too many? And what score will I need to get that much merit aid at Creighton University?
I think 7 is a little excessive and too much, but you’re the one paying the money. I believe after time you have plateaued and will not increase, but if you’re okay with spending the money nobody is going to stop you.
Agree with all above - give it another shot. Try to get your practice tests into same score range and make it happen one last time on December test. Good luck!
Dude take it as many times as you want until you reach your desired score. Most people don’t know this but you can delete test scores on ACT. I would do this so when you are finished with ACT you have a max of 3 on you record. Its free too B-)
I strongly believe that the number of times to take a test depends on a student. In your case, #7 is just fine because you have a specific goal in mind for a specific school. Before you sign up for December, though, make sure Creighton will accept the Dec. scores for the types of aid/scholarships you’re hoping to get. To get the info, call an admissions counselor at the school and ask those questions.
Go for your 31 but take some practice tests and study for English and Math, where you have the best chance to improve. My son went from a 25 (no prep) early in his sophomore year to a 33 *34 superscore (practice tests) his senior year. If you can score a 29, then you have a good chance of scoring a 31. Good luck!!
Thank you to everyone that commented. @midtntutor the last ACT date they accept for merit aid is the December date. I also did not know that you could delete test dates. I will be deleting my lower scores. Again, thank you so much.
@EvanAlmighty847 how do you have ACT delete scores? Can you do it online in your ACT account? Or do you need to call them or request in writing/email? Thanks!
Students own their test scores and may direct ACT to delete their scores for a particular test date from our records. (Note: Students may not delete scores used to document participation in State and District Testing.)
To delete your scores for a particular test date, you must submit a written request. Provide us with your name and home address, and we will mail you a form to complete and return to us. We will then permanently remove your record for that test date from our files. All scores from that test date will be deleted.

Take it again! My daughter took it 5 times. She got a 26, 29, 28, 27, and finally a 31. She purposely didn’t study for the last one either - she just went in and took the test. It’s definitely worth a shot!
If you are taking the standardized test multiple times to improve your chance of getting into a school with vague holistic admissions, probably not. If you are trying to exceed a specific score in order to quality for merit aid, by all means take the test as many times as you have to.
Take it! I am a current senior who will be taking test number 7 in December. I am at a 31 and need a 32 for more merit aid at the University of Alabama. I started at a 26 and have increased my score everytime. My problem is that I haven’t studied (oops), but if you are willing to pay the 40 or so dollars to take it again, I say go for it as it could possibly pay off in the end.
I think you should change your study methods. Do SOMETHING different. How are you currently studying? Online? Do a book. Book? Do online. Take a review course. Buy or barter tutoring. Work with a friend. Try SOMETHING dififerent!
