How Many Times Is Too Many?

Hi all,
I recently took the SAT in June as a sophomore(1900).
I'm currently debating taking the October SAT (as a current Junior), however I'm really stuck.
I was planning on taking the SAT in the spring and in the fall of my senior year, which would add up to 4 tests.
I read so many things online saying that it's horrible to take it 4 times, so I'm not sure what to do! Of course if I exceeded 2200, I doubt I'd take the test again. Any advice from some of you SAT experts would really help! Thanks!

You could just not take it four times (i.e. skip junior spring or senior fall)…or you can wait until junior spring and prepare a bunch. Is there a reason why you really want to take the October SAT? (or both spring/fall next year)

I mostly want to take October to get a better score (I was expecting 2100 based off practice tests in June and got a 1900 just because of test anxiety and small errors) and because I kind of don’t want to go through my whole junior year with a 1900… Not that it’s bad, it’s just that I was upset about it because I know I could have done way better. Also October is the only Time that offers the “Student Answer Service” which I like, but could sacrifice.
The only reason I would take it senior year is if I’m still not satisfied with my score. I’m applying early decision to a college and early action to some, so I would have to take it in October senior year even then (which I can’t guarentee I’m free)

You really don’t need to take it 4 times. Build up your confidence and practice your weaker subjects daily, and you’ll get there. If it still doesn’t work for you, consider trying the ACT.

Colleges will never know what you don’t send them. Unless you plan on going to a college that requires all scores, and those are usually very selective and rare, just don’t send the bad scores.

Fall and Spring of Junior year sounds like a good plan - if you’re really not satisfied by then, then maybe you can consider taking it once again senior year.

I would HIGHLY recommend taking the ACT as well. I got a 2100 --> 2130 --> 2230 on the SAT, but that was after a TON of time spent practicing. I took the ACT after taking once practice test and basically got a 33.

First, why did you take it your Sophomore year?
1900 is a good score but I don’t know what your target is.
Also, what studying have you done to date?
I don’t recommend taking it more than 3 times. It will raise red flags regardless what your score is.
Study, take fully timed practice tests, etc. When you are hitting your target score or you have built confidence, then schedule to take the test.

Taking it more than 3 times is allowed, but frowned upon. I’d skip one of the earlier ones and just keep studying.
