How many times to take the SAT

I just took the SAT in November, as a junior. I'm applying to summer programs and I wanted to take it again in January so I had a better score to apply with. However, I need to take it in the spring and fall of senior year for sure, so that would leave me taking the test four times. Is that too many? What schools don't let you use score choice? How many times is too many?

Why do you NEED to take the SAT two times your senior year? The right thing to do is retake it if you think your score will improve, not just because some schedule you planned out says you must take it X times.

It is only too many if you feel that your score is as high as it will ever be. If you feel that your scores are not a representation of your academic abilities, continue to take it.

I definitely know I can do better. So, if I do continue to improve, it doesn’t look bad?

If you are showing significant improvement, taking it 4 times wouldn’t look that bad, no. But do realize that your score rarely improves much after the second time you take it.

My score went down from the first to second time

2270 –> 2230
