What's a good number of times to take the SAT? I have All A's and am currently #1 in my class. I've heard that if I take the SAT and get an above average but still under par score for Yale (eg. 2150) it is best to keep that score and say the reason I didn't get a higher score was because I felt sick, nervous, etc. and cite my good grades as proof. Is this an effective strategy or should I try until I get above a 2300?

BAD IDEA.
Take it until you are satisfied with your score. Before I took the SAT a third time I called every college I was applying to and each stated that it did not matter to them how many times I took it and that they only look at the highest scores.
Call the schools you want to go to but Yale only takes the best in each section, regardless of how many times you have taken it.

My score went up 200 points my third try :)

Um, just about everyone is sick/nervous when they take the SATs--and if it was serious enough to impair your score, they'd expect you to take them again. That's not going to work.

Instead of worrying about how many times you'll have to take it, STUDY so you do well the first time!

^agree with lookbeyond. study and do well the first time is always the best option.
but def take it again if you think you can significantly increase your score

thanks for the advice. i'll still study hard for the first time i take it but if i don't get a good score ill be sure to retake it.

Definitely study and retake it, but try not to take it more than 2 or 3 times :)
