How many W's begin to affect a Transfer student? [i have 4 or 5 right now]

I had 5 W’s, 3 of which all happened in one semester where I got distracted with a gf and dropped all but one class. I also had 2 F’s which I later retook for A’s, and ended up with a 3.5 gpa.

I offered no explanation for these W’s on my application and was accepted to ucla. I was rejected by cal but I honestly think it was becuz of my gpa(I lazily acquired two B’s for my pre-req’s for cal,) not the W’s. So there.

since this thread has been resurrected from the dead I thought I’d add something I remembered. There was a guy sometime back on this board who had something like 9 or 10 Ws and got accepted to every single UC he applied (Cal, UCLA, etc.). However, if I recall correctly he did have a pretty good gpa…something like 3.7 or so. Unfortunately I do not recall the circumstances surrounding the Ws.

If I just graduated from HS and decided to take a summer class at CC, but then dropped out with a W, will that negatively affect my chances of getting into Cal or UCLA or UCSD? I plan on being a physics major. It was an English 101 class.

Are you speaking to the ghosts that created this thread over 5 years ago?

Start a new one.

And no, a W will not affect your chances.

@otoribashi‌ no, it will not affect your chances at all. So go ahead and drop it and don’t worry.

Is there an echo in here?

JK :)

Ha ha I didn’t see your last sentence. Just the top part and I scrolled down.

I had 5 W’s and was admitted to all of the UC’s I applied to for fall 2014 (UCI, UCSB, UCLA, UCR)

I had 4 W’s. Speech, French, elementary guitar, and intro to chemistry. I retook the chemistry and speech classes, took ASL instead of French, and didn’t take the 1 unit guitar class. I got admitted to all the UC’s I applied to as well (Cal, UCLA, UCSD, etc…)

W’s do not mean much, i had 4 and still got into all the school’s i applied to. Do not even need a good explanation, I wrote something like, work schedule and family obligation.I made it with those W’s with A’s the following semester or down the road.
