Wow... I just logged online to find that I have been denied to the University of California at Santa Barbara, but I got into Cornell. Can someone tell me what the hell is going on?

UCSB has to have almost all of their students from California under state law, therefore it is very selective for out of state people to get in.

Weelll, for one, the UCs don't really like out-of-staters. The acception rate for them is less than 20% or something. And it appears that you're from IL...that might have something to do with it.

what does it matter anyway though, its not like anyone would choose UCSB over Cornell

YEAH! Come to Cornell!! We're a much better school than UCSB by far. :D

lol dude, have you seen the Wash. U waitlist people, it's absurd

yeah the WashU waitlist people... thats me.... lol

yeah, i just looked at that, that is CRAZY...i feel bad for all you guys, don't worry though, i'm sure you'll get into much better schools than WashU

I'm one of them too. Can i just ask,...what the fcuk

haha that is so funny. uc;s are so weird. i appliedto ucsb and i live in california. i withdrew it, so we won't know, but i def wouldn't have gotten in. they favor public schools. i'm not mad about it though. the public schools need their advantage in some part of the process. but yeah my ex boyfriend got in to like macalester and boston university last year but didn't get in to ucsb..what are ya gonna do

Hi I got waitlisted by WashU. I feel very very insulted. Screw WashU. Everyone knows Cornell is 48734603759823748912741289321 times better! YAY CORNELL! :D

lol, nice one jen <high five=""></high>

My friend got into Harvard EA but got rejected from MIT the other day.. No legacy at Harvard or anything like that... How insane!?

lol, I got rejected from MIT too. Yeah, so WashU and MIT both suck.

one of my friends got accepted into yale early action and got rejected by ucla, so ya.....
and we live in san diego, ca, so i dunno...

Wash U is awesome and oh so beautiful. After I finish undergrad, I might go there for medicine.

Also, it depends on the "demonstrated interest." If you randomly apply to a school without visiting/requesting information/contacting them/showing a connection in your app, your chances are hurt.

haha thank you everyone for your input! Now that I didn't get into UCSB, I'm definitely going to Cornell. I just can't believe how screwed up the UC system is. UCSB is only the 4th best UC school, and Cornell is ivy league! It just doesn't make sense. Although I'm not going to be tan year round, Cornell seems like the people there are much more genuine.

all i know is that ucsb bases their decisions on a lot of factors
about 50% of student pop is white
i've heard that lyk 1.5% more ppl applied this year
getting a lot more competitive and jumping in us news and report rankings

lol, next thing you know, wash u and ucsb are going to be higher than harvard on us news and report :p
