This has been lingering in my mind for a while. My initial aid offer earlier in the year was rather generous, with an award of about 18k in total (including a full Pell Grant). Of course the financial aid office has been kind of bungling my papers or something like that because I still cannot view an award letter for the "specified year". I've since sent them in duplicates of required documents and that's being processed, but I'm afraid that this late in the game I'll probably be lucky to get something to the tune of 5k.

Anybody else who's had past experience with delayed financial aid care to give a rough estimate of how much Rutgers gives out? If it's any perspective, I'm in a five-person household with an annual income of about $50,000 for 2010.

It’s alright - that’s not too bad of an estimate, then. I figured lots of people got really cheated, perhaps getting only 1/2 - 2/3rds of what they’re promised! Do you (or does anybody else) know if the federal Pell grants are given to everyone who qualifies, or are they first-come-first-served like loans?

Aid is different for every student but I was awarded 3,334 for tuition aid grant only.I’m still waiting to see if I receive federal aid grant. Even thought bill is due next week. :/

I still haven’t received an award letter, so I’m starting to get worried. As I understand it the Pell grant is promised to everybody eligible for it, and I am, so I’m assuming they just haven’t finished processing my financial aid yet as opposed to me not getting anything. I got a term bill extension for 8/30, but this is maddening. I’ll probably call them on Tuesday or so if I still haven’t heard anything from them.

Hey Linking. I’m a work-study student in the office of fiancial aid so I think I can be of assistance. There is a massive amount of mailings/faxes of required documents being sent to the office daily and only few financial aid officers. The documents have to be scanned and reviewed by the officers which is the hold up. If you’ve sent in all required documents then don’t worry about anything. You’ve been granted an extension because they havent finnished working on your file. Don’t worry!

Yeah, the “Required Documents” page was updated about a week after I mailed in my papers, and I’d just assumed they would start processing as soon as they had the time to, well, confirm receipt of them which is why I was a bit skeptical. Then again, I remember as early back as March and April my classmates were panicking over how it took something to the tune of a month to get their initial offers back.

Thanks for taking the time to post here and put my mind at ease. Do you have any idea as to whether or not there’s a certain “cutoff date” that the office tries to get everybody’s paperwork done by (or perhaps not, considering I received an extension in the meantime)?

i too not have a final financial aid yet. from students that i talked to, oen of the student’s TAG dropped drastically within a day without notice. so, does this mean that the student who did not even get a term bill/final financial aid yet is going to even get a smaller financial aid? helppppp

Not sure. I remember receiving a letter earlier in the summer saying that the NJTAG may be reduced this year, so maybe that’s what happened to those people.

Also UCCboii if you don’t mind me asking, is there any way of knowing if I got the HESAA? Because my term bill was originally due on the 9th not the 15th, but then again considering my financial aid hasn’t been processed yet that may be why they never changed it. My initial offer listed the HESAA, but since then I’ve received no other mention of it.

No problem Linking. Once you have done everything on your part you have nothing to worry about. Its strictly a matter of administrative processing thereafter. There is no cutoff date but counselors continue packaging into the first few weeks of the semester, but most students are packaged by then. You will be fiiine. Trust me…they’re gonna make sure they gather you money so they can get your money! lol

Juwonm when qualified (in-state) students receive their inital offer letters it usually has TAG included, however for the past couple of years its just been an estimate. It is not finalized until mid to late August when the school receive the budget from the state. Last year when I got mine it was one amount on my initial offer and then it changed in August. It does not change drastically, I dont even think it goes up or down more than $100 so I wouldnt worry about that.

I received a second HESAA letter offering about $4,400 per semester, which is the same amount they reported on my first HESAA letter back in May or so. So no apparent depreciation there - although I do kind of need my financial aid letter before I can see for myself. :v
