How much Bs affect my chance in getting in P?

I really want to go to Princeton, but I got Bs in all of my honors and APs courses last semester. Right now, I have two As in AP Psych and Honors Chemistry, but still Bs in AP USH, Honors Math analysis and Honors English. How will this affect my chance in getting in Princeton?

Bumpy bump

43 views and no response? Please feel welcome to answer my question. Just tell the truth. Honestly, I don't think I have a chance in getting in my dream school, but I have to make sure.

It's going to hurt, unless you can somehow push it up. Don't count yourself out of the running, though. You'll just have to balance it out with other parts of the app.

Can I explain the situation to Princeton? I got transferred up to a more academically rigorous school (my new school is in the range of #400 (according to Newsweek) and my old school is #900)

it'll be a challenge, so finish out as strong as you can. But, suggest asking your GC to explain your transfer; that way it does not come across that you are making excuses.

That list in Newsweek is pretty meaningless. Saying that, don't just have one dream school. Even "perfecto" applicants don't get in.

Explore other schools, because even if you had straight A in all Aps, fives on all test, cured cancer, you still might not get in!!!

Citygirlsmom is absolutely right. Even with near perfect stats, kids, many kids do not get into Princeton or like schools, and I doubt if it is the slight inperfection that kept them out. Lottery ticket schools are just that--chances, small chances. Most of the time, you need something exceptional outside of the stats such as grades, tough courses, and test scores to get in. If you have something exceptional to offer that they want, a few B's is not going to keep you out. Without that "hook", even straight A's is not going to get you in.

what is worng with a "B"

^ yea..since when is a B bad? especially in an AP class

A stands for Absolutely Terrific.
B stands for Bad.
C stands for Cool Effort.
D stands for Detrimental.
F is Failure.

So you see..a C is an accomplishment for some because you managed to pass. An A is the highest mark so it's also a good acheivement.

Then you have B..which is just mediocre. Everyone gets em and they stand for no extra push to pass or any genius to get an Absolutely Terrific. So Bs are bad.

A B is bad if you are applying to Princeton.

There is not enough information for anyone to give you advice. There is never enough information no matter how much you give. Are you a legacy or a under-represented minority or an athletic? What are your EC's? What did you say in your essay? What is your class rank? What score did you get on the AP exam? What are your other grades? Who good is your high school and how many people in your high school are applying to Princeton? What did your recommendations say? What state do you live in? Have you won any national prizes? Do you play a musical instrument? What instrument? (Princeton may need an oboe player for the orchestra next year)

Applying to the extremely selective schools is like a lottery. For every applicant accepted, there are four or five applicants who are denied, but for all intents and purposes, they are identical to the accepted applicant. If Princeton threw out everybody who was accepted and started over again, the freshman class would be statistically identical to the first group.

The Bs will definitely hurt you, especially since they are in 'only' honors classes. All the 'real' classes at my high school were honors, for instance.

The one thing that can save you unless you are a recruited athlete or URM is if you have good test scores.

On the other hand, what grade are you in? This really matters. I got many, many B's, but all of them except 1 was in 9th grade. I got in RD. I am neither an athlete or an URM.

interesting... ericmeng can you please tell me exactly how many Bs you received? I also have a few, actually many, Bs that I'm not too proud of.

from what I hear...to get into Princeton one has to be excellent at one thing as good at everything else. Bs will hurt, but if you have a hook your chances probably aren't compromised too much.

Are you URM? How many Bs did you receive?

I received 5 Bs in first semester, and probably will receive 4, maybe 3, Bs in second semester. Yes, I am URM (african american), but i don't see how it is related to this situation?

Bs are bad... but based on your "disabilities" you are one hell of a player!

I wouldn't discount your Pton admissions...

At least, you do have that thread in the Pton forum, right? You are a different case, bro, so don't give up. :D

"Yes, I am URM (african american), but i don't see how it is related to this situation?"

Why do all trolls end up using this type of baiting phrase?
