How much can my website help me?

I'm an average student at school (11th), getting mostly B's. My GPA is about a 3.15 and I should get about a 30 or 31 on the ACT.

I have a website covering a major league baseball team and their minor leagues. I've interviewed major league players and coaches, my site receives about 40,000 unique views per month and my work has been cited by a national newspaper and the team's news network.

I've been given press/media credentials to the team's major league spring training and for all of their minor league affiliates. I've taught myself HTML, CSS, and PHP which I've used to create the site. I've been asked to write for one former ESPN author and worked for another ESPN correspondent.

I started the site in 10th grade at the age of 15 and it's grow to what's listed above in just a year.

How much this is going to help me get into college?

sounds really good, its def something you could really play up in an essay. depending on where you plan to apply, i dont know if it could revolutionize your app though

It’s a good addition. Definitely usable in an essay. It shows commitment and industry with results, and it’s unique. It won’t make your app, but it could help distinguish you.

Thanks for the responses. I can put all of that on my resume, no? Don’t colleges look at that?

That sounds really cool. If the goal in college admissions is to get noticed and be unique (and it is to a certain extent) then you accomplish that goal.

macbook: I’m going to tell you something at odds with all the previous respondents (all who seem to be HS students).

Most colleges will admit/reject you solely based on your GPA and test scores. Only the tippy top colleges – typically use factors such as extracurriculars to add dimension to a file. Most of the posters above have not commented on this reality.

My guess is this: schools that will realistically accept you (decent ACT, OK GPA) will not factor in the website. You’re better served getting more As your senior year than wondering if the website will give you a boost. Best of luck to you.

Hey, would rather hear the truth. Thanks for the reply!

This will definitely boost your ECs and could make for a great essay topic. Even at schools that mostly consider GPA and test scores, this could still provide a useful boost.
