How much can you improve your SAT score in 6 months?

I got 1170 on the June SAT. Is it realistic to get to a 1500+ in 6 months? I’m a rising junior.

That varies from person to person, the amount of hours you can spend on it and the resources available to you. I’ll take myself as an example, I got 1250 and I’m planning to raise it to 1400-1500 in three months and I also want to score +700s on Math II and physics (two months for it) the pro is that I got graduated already from high school and I don’t have to spend +7 hours a day at school, and the con is that I’m not enough disciplined for studying on a daily basis. What about you? How much free time do you have for preparation? Do you have good grades in math and English? That may also infer since good grades (in some cases) mean that the student knows the topics tested but he lacks of testing skills (pacing, problem solving in context, etc).

Highly unlikely. The difficulty of getting into the top percentile tier isn’t linear.

@Mrduque I’m planning to take the SAT in January 2017 so that I can study during winter break. I don’t think I’ll have time to study exclusively for the SAT during the semester because I’ll be doing IB. I’ve always had perfect grades in English and math, but I got only 660 RW and 510 Math.
Do you think it’s possible to get a high score if I manage to study intensively only during this summer and winter break?

@PrimeMeridian What about getting 1400-1500? How likely do you think it is?

How did you do on the PSAT?

Yes it’s possible for you to get 1400-1500 or even +1500 with enough effort, there are some guides from Prepscholar that may help you to study effectively: how to get 800 in sat math/reading/writing, and how to get a perfect score on the SAT

Of course anything is possible. A chimp randomly typing out the entire Gettysburg Address is possible

Knowing the OP’s PSAT score will help us assess whether it’s probable.

@PrimeMeridian I’ve never taken the PSAT because I’m an intl student. All I have is June’s SAT score.

I would start studying now and take one SAT this autumn (October preferably) and take again in January. Your schoolwork is only going to get harder over the next 2 years, so now is your ideal time to get your score up.

Also, check if any other schools in your area are offering the PSAT in November. My daughter found another school that offered it and did it there.
