So, just when I finished high school, I decided to take Calc 1 in the summer (even though I took it my senior year of high school). I was takin calc 1 again because I thought it would be a good way to review for Calc 2, which I knew would be harder. I also took it again incase I didn't get a 4 on the AP test. Once I got my AP scores, i realized that I got a 4. My community college wanted at least a 4 to proceed to calc 2. I thought I can get the B my the end of the summer session, but I ended up getting a C. I also didn't want to drop the course.

I really want to go to UC Berkeley, and I know they have high standards. I am aiming for my max GPA by this Fall (3.69). How badly will the C affect me?

One C does not affect you too much. The damage it does is to your GPA. I have 1 C, 5 Bs, and 3.72 and I was admitted to all UCs I applied to (including CAL)

Yah, the amount it did to the GPA really upset me.

You suck man, took ap calc in high school and you still got a C?

@UCAdmit: There are numerous reasons that bhav007 might have performed poorly in his Calc class. You might think about toning down your derogatory responses to others. From your posting history, it wasn’t very long ago that you were worried about a poor cum GPA yourself. Remember?

@UCAdmit

I agree with you to a certain extent, but you should keep that to yourself. Try to put yourself in his shoes for a minute. Maybe he had a harder teacher than you did, or maybe it’s been a while since he did math. or… maybe it’s only easier for you because, unlike you, he has a life outside of just doing math problems all day ;). jk… but seriously, just keep that in mind.

Idk, I just happened to forget the stuff plus it was a 7:50 am to 10:30 am class mon - thurs. I slept at like 3 am everyday and napped in the day, but for some reason I didn’t study the material that much. The professor also went over stuff that I didn’t learn in high school, like epsilon and a few other things which sort of messed me up on tests. He was also the type that takes of many points off an arithmetic mistake:

I was looking through an old exam; throughout the calculation, I forgot the numerator part of the answer (I forgot the one on top), and I got docked off 6 points (and the problem was 10 points). My answer was 16, and the correct answer was 1/16. I got 4/10 points on that problem

Also, I didn’t work hard in the class that summer because I didn’t know much about college GPA and UC Transfer GPA at the time. I think I was thinking that an AP score can overwrite the calc 1 class since I got the 4. Everything was new to me.

wont do much damage, dont worry about it. just keep working hard, kid
