Just out of curiosity. I’m a sophomore and I didn’t do as well as I expected but I didn’t study for this test at all - plus the cutoff for National Merit in my state is very high (NJ).
I know it really is dependent on how much you studied, but just out of curiosity, how much did you guys improve as juniors?
9th: 171 (62 CR,58 M,51 W)
10th: 181 (60 CR,69 M,52 W)
11th: 1470 (710 CRW, 760 M) 218 Index
11th December SAT: 2240 (740 CR, 780 M, 720 W)
For 9th and 10th there was no studying done. This year’s PSAT I did the practice test that came with the registration and two practice tests from the new Blue Book/Khan Academy (the tests are exactly the same) and roughly studied for around three hours reviewing concepts and watching Khan Academy videos, so around twelve hours total for this PSAT.
The SAT I studied for over Thanksgiving Break, five hours a day for eight days. Practice test in the morning, test corrections and learning concepts after lunch. I used the Blue Book for practice tests and Erica Meltzer grammar guide (writing was my weakest section as seen in the PSAT scores).
I personally felt the new PSAT/SAT was a bit easier because I’m weak at reading and writing (especially vocab), so 50% of the score being math really helped me.
You can for sure score higher if you study, also, the extra year of learning in school helps a lot.
Hello fellow New Jerseyan! xD
Sophomore year: 191 (CR 64, M 62, W 65)
Junior year: 1470 (CR/W 710, M 760) 218 SI (isn’t it wacky how I have the same exact score as fisisk?)
Also junior year:
October SAT: 1960 (CR 600, M 650, W 710)
December SAT: 2100 (CR 700, M 700, W 700)
Super Score: 2110 (CR 700, M 700, W 710)
I am awful and as much as I keep meaning to study it’s just never happened.
Our state kind of sucks because we’re too damn smart but maybe just maybe if I pray hard enough, a 218 will just make it.
Use Khan Academy and study, and I’m sure you’ll be fine. My SAT score was 200 points better than my sophomore PSAT and neither of them I studied for, so you never know.
Mine was really weird.
10th: 61 CR 78 M 61 W 200 C
11th: 57 CR 71 M 78 W 206 C
My actual SAT was this, by the way:
690 CR 740 M 770 W 2200 C
Sophomore PSAT: 65 R 67 M 69 W (total 201with index of 202)
Junior PSAT: ERW 740 M 740 (total 1480 with index of 222)
Junior SATs: October 2290 (790 R 710 M 790 W)
November 2310 (750 R 800 M 760 W)
Super Score: 2380
I’m from Mass, so I know the struggle with high cut offs. I hope we all make it!
Freshman PSAT 207 (67M, 68CR, 72W I think)
Soph PSAT 206 (68M, 75CR, 63W)
Soph SAT (March): 2280 (800 CR, 700 M, 780 W)
Junior SAT: 2300 (800 CR, 800W, 700M)
Junior PSAT: 1490 (730 V, 760 M) SI 222
I have never studied for PSAT or SAT besides 1-2 practice tests beforehand. I think AP Lang helped me a lot with the CR and writing on the old SAT. Big score jumps might happen as you mature and become familiar with the test format
My scores are all over the place.
Sophomore PSAT: 161 (56CR, 64M, 61W)
Soph SAT (Nov): 2030 (560CR, 750M, 720W)
Junior PSAT: 1440 (740V, 700M, 218 index)
Junior SAT (Dec): 1900 (620CR, 670M, 610W)
I felt like the 2015 SAT was considerably harder than the 2014 SAT. Seeing how well everyone did on this year’s PSATs, the 2016 redesigned SAT may be much easier…but who knows?
