My apps all had around 4-5 typos.
How much do they hurt a top applicant (top applicant as in high stats, good ECAs, decent essays (nothing great though))?
I know no one can give a definitive answer…but I’m still putting the question out there.

Almost immediately after submitting my common app, I realized I had some punctuation errors in the conclusion of my essay (was missing a few commas). They weren’t particularly egregious, but it was enough to make me wince, seeing as I had revised it about 5 times trying to make it as close to perfect as possible…
So far it hasn’t given me any problems in actually getting into colleges; I’m 3/3 (one of my more-preferred schools) + an ivy deferral- Those 3 acceptances didn’t require supplemental essays- though I tried to compensate for this shortcoming in my common app essay by writing quality supplementals- so I suppose it’s not something that will break your application, so long as you’ve demonstrated your capability…
actually i dont think they hurt that bad. On my UMich honor program essay i wrote “tit” instead of “it”…i got in
You guys had one or two.
I had 4 to 5.
I had decent essays in terms of content though. *** I just hope for the best, best being adcoms don’t reject me because of my ineptitude as a proofreader.
I’m in the same boat as you. I just found two typos in my common app essay (I used peak instead of peek and a major grammar mistake), as well as two in my Grinnell supplement. I guess all we can do is hope for the best. Ironically, I applied as an English major… haha.
Some colleges don’t really penalize you for “a few” grammatical errors. As long as you didn’t write your essay neglecting all the rules of grammar, you should be fine! Most colleges try concentrating on the message your trying to put across through your essay!
