Hey guys. I took a practice ACT test today (I'm planning on taking it in December) I got a 26 English, 33 Math, 26 Science, and a 28 Reading. I have Kaplan's Premier ACT Guide, Cracking the ACT (I took the test out of this one), McGraw-Hill's ten practice test book, and the Red Book. If I study daily (I plan on at least 45 minutes a day on weekdays, at least 1.5 hrs on the weekend), do you guys think I'll improve enough to get a 34+ on each section. Your opinions are greatly appreciated.

You are looking for a 6 point improvement in composite score. That is possible, but it is going to be hard. I would set a more modest goal and once you achieve it then set a higher goal. I think 3 points of improvement is quite achievable. A few suggestions.

Don’t burn out. You sound really ambitious. 7 hours of study each week is a lot. I don’t know how much time you have, but you should be able to improve your score substantially even using less time. I always recommend 1 section per week. You can do more, just make sure you are not feeling frustrated. It is easiest to learn when you are happy and enjoying your studies, so make this a priority too.

Focus on your weak sections first. You are almost there in math, so leave that one alone, and spend your time practicing the other three first.

Once you cross 30+ on a section be sure you are focusing on your weak spots. If you are getting most of a practice exam correct, then you will waste time working on problems you already know. Identify the areas you are weakest in and study them carefully. For example if your problem is tense agreement, then you should be studying this subject in depth.

I hope that helps. Please check in with your progress so we can hear about how you are doing and what works for you.

All the best,
