I'm african american and my mother attended Wellesley college. I'm a little nervous about my test scores and pretty nervous about my lack of leadership positions. My gpa and course rigor seem pretty good to me but I would say my test scores are at the lower end of the accepted range. I guess I'll apply anyways and work really hard on my essays, but do you think being a urm legacy will have much of an impact?

Yes, it will have impact on your admissions. Both the legacy pool and the URM pool, look at applicants outside of the regular process. The chances of getting admitted from those pools are higher than from the regular pool. How much more depends on who else is in those pools with you.

Legacy status is a bigger plus at some schools than others. I think it matters a lot at Wellesley. However, don’t sell yourself short - good GPA and course rigor are very important too - its not all about tests. I think applying ED helps too, if you want to make the best case for yourself. Good luck!
